Hey. In case no one has said this to you in 20 years:

U r0xx0rz my b0xx0rz <3
I've always understood that this is a country where most of us have to abide by laws, but rich and powerful men do not. I did not realize, though, how many completely average people would voluntarily run onto the sword to protect those men, even for the most disgusting crimes imaginable. For what??

One of the hardest things to remember in these times is that while things are falling apart, *they are not falling apart because you're not trying hard enough*. They're falling apart because the structures of our society can't prop them up anymore.

You are enough, just as you are.

As much as I enjoy book and movie recommendations, it honestly makes me feel way more seen when a friend says, "Wow, I just read/saw this thing that you would f'ing HATE."

I'm definitely too old for "performative male" discourse, but I will say I support men reading for ANY REASON, even if it starts as performative. If attention-seeking accidentally gets someone loving a book, hell yea.

You should want to be in a society where people are gaining rights. Yes, even if you don't personally like the rights or the people gaining them. More guaranteed protection is good.

Now, follow this through fully. It's a bad sign in a country for ANY people to lose ANY rights, period.

Ah, the first cold day in a new home, also known as, "the day Lore learns where she gets to use the caulk gun."

I became so addicted to Once Upon a Katamari during surgery recovery that, falling asleep last night, my brain started running images of the game. ...Uh, weirdly, I guess that's better than falling asleep catastrophizing with political dread?

I cannot emphasize this enough: Please do not use AI tools as therapy. Not only is it not a good replacement for actual therapy, but your chat logs could be shared with the government, and I don't think you need a reminder that especially right now in the US, that could put you in danger.
AI therapy is a surveillance machine in a police state
Big Tech wants you to share your private thoughts with chatbots — while backing a government with contempt for privacy.

VITAL INFORMATION: These things get piloted by real people when a task is too complex, which is basically always, which means you just HAVE A STRANGER IN YOUR HOME, SEEING YOUR VALUABLES, HUGGING YOUR KIDS, ARE YOU INSANE
NEO, a new humanoid robot that can do housekeeping, has the internet buzzing. The hosts of "Hard Fork" met with Bernt Bornich, the chief executive of the company 1X, which created the robot, and got to put NEO to the test. nyti.ms/47MhkAo

You know what I bet would really help my post-surgery healing process? Hours and hours of playing a horror video game that will give me nightmares!

(This was a mistake. Game was "No, I'm Not a Human" for anyone interested.)

it does seem like there’s a major—though potentially fleeting—opportunity to invest in left-wing media. more than a million people in the most populous city in america just enthusiastically elected a democratic socialist and the world is watching. putting $$ towards left media rn is good business.

I did not feel hungry, but I agreed to eat. My spouse brought me more chicken nuggets than I've ever eaten in my life (plus cucumbers w/ Tajin and blueberries), and I devoured it all without flinching.

The surgical wound craves nuggies, and my spouse heeds the call.

I think it says a lot that I felt JOY knowing all I have to do for the next few days is lie on the couch and heal. When I'm treating a (voluntary) head wound like a vacation, things are Bad!

While I have my doubts that the feds will comply with any order, I am moved by Judge Ellis incorporating poetry and historical quotes into the record. It makes me feel hopeful about the long arc of history and what sticks.
Ellis is concluding, with John Adams words to his wife in 1775 about the need to fight for the nascent American democracy.

"Liberty once lost is lost forever."

This time in history is inspiring me to get a really stereotypical Chicago star/flag tattoo, so I never forget how the greatest city responded to fascism with unity and love. Look at what this violence has done to us, look at the cringe it has awakened.

I need dermatologic surgery once a year or so. Every time, I come out feeling like, though a miracle, dermatology is brutish and violent. Yea man, just chop some meat off of me! Let students literally reach INTO MY HEAD! I am paying for this to happen, I love it, it is medically necessary!!

I am not allowed to have a drink celebrating Mamdani tonight, because I'm having a lil surgery tomorrow, but because of his victory, I have decided not to die on the operating table.*
