Techbros seem to love Tolkien, so here's an analogy to help you understand what genAI is.

GenAI is The One Ring. You think your use is justified, b/c you don't have evil in your heart.

But it came from evil, it is intended for evil purpose, & anything you do with it will be twisted to that end.

"he hacked us with a CLAM?"
Invasive quagga mussels are killing off lake ecosystems in the US and Europe, and are now in Northern Ireland.

Yet every time invasives are mentioned, someone says "But it's all just nature."

They're *wrong*: invasive species are one of the worst HUMAN impacts.

‘It’s an open invasion’: how millions of quagga mussels changed Lake Geneva for ever
The molluscs are decimating food chains in Switzerland, have devastated the Great Lakes in the US, and this week were spotted in Northern Ireland for the first time

Re gender affirming care for youth: They will come for the haircuts and the clothes next. And it won’t stop with kids or trans people. And I’ve been telling people this for a decade and now here we are with lots of cis people shrugging and saying it’s unfortunate. How are you going to save a life?

Notice how Trump and Republicans were having the worst couple weeks in the administration's history and they decided to pivot to hardcore attacking trans people?

This is the hardest thing for me to express to people commissioning me. You know in your mind better than anyone what looks right, and if you aren't very precise with your words, interpretation by others will vary dramatically. Stick figures disambiguate ideas more than people give gredit.

The reality is that most of the healthcare needs of trans people are entirely straightforward and routine and there is no medical reason why they cannot be met by their GPs like everyone else's are.

I hate "it's not going anywhere" and "it's here to stay" inevitability language

It's not brave or bold to latch onto something you've been convinced is powerful, it's cowardly & pathetic

Things don't just happen to you. Surrendering your agency to avoid the fight at all is spineless, not wise

A new systematic review & meta-analysis of 2M+ people estimates a ~36% pooled prevalence of reported long COVID after infection.

claiming you "don't know anyone" who's had long COVID is statistically implausible - unless you only know like <3-4 people

For years, public health bent under pressure to downplay masks. When the same institutions now say “mask up,” it’s not a flip-flop—it’s a warning. If they’re willing to recommend masks again, the airborne threat is serious.
Finally.
A Public Health division released useful public recommendations to helo protect each other from illness spread (including airborne pathogen spread)

In 1988 Umberto Eco wrote Foucault's Pendulum.

The plot is: a bunch of guys working at a self-publisher house, for fun, take their huge crackpot and crank slush pile and jam it all together using a simple markov chain program written in BASIC.

They create a Grand Unified Conspiracy Theory.
