New intro time! Hi!

I'm the Anime & Manga editor for @inbetweendrafts.bsky.social, where I also co-host Rookie Pirate Radio, our podcast that is mostly about One Piece but not exclusively.

When I'm not doing that I sometimes write for my game blog Hidden Levels, and I also like TCGs too much!
It's true and he should say it
If I had to bet on the main thing that has radicalized people against "ai," and I am talking about the way that branding is CURRENTLY BEING USED, not whatever specialized ML utility you may have found for it, it would be in apps and tech they already use being made worse and/or inoperable by it

Standing up against these laws, both in the USA and numerous other nations, is integral for a whole host of issues

Gaza? Minnesota? Venezuela? If these and more matter to you, then you need to get active because these laws will handicap any online organizing for MANY causes
A very good point. While calling out corporations is important, our government is trying to force av laws like KOSA and SCREEN on EVERYONE under the guise of "protecting kids". Call your reps + tell them to OPPOSE these bad bills. #SaveSpeech #Stopageverification #StopKOSA

There has to be one, but I'm having a hard time thinking of how we pull people this deep in the sauce out.

Chadwick Boseman and James van der Beek both died in their 40s of an illness that's treatable if a colonoscopy catches it but almost no insurer covers them for people under 45, this is what Engels meant by "social murder"

I keep seeing folks say they'll just accept a Teen Friendly account on Discord rather than scan or ID and I don't know if I wanna mass normalize leaving NSFW pals out in the cold yet again. Especially with all the censorship stuff goin on I think we gotta stand with the freaks now more than ever.

This is like 10x more brazen than anything you'll read in a Naomi Klein book or hear on Democracy Now
this is comically evil. brazenly anti-social. just absolute black-pilled nihilism. we will not have a republic, we will not be free, until we regulate these companies to the point where — at a bare minimum — they're too afraid to put stuff like this down on paper.

toxic positivity rooted in some level of surprising naivety is a real problem in a lot of scenarios like this. the thread suggestion of mock reviews is a great one
"Internal feedback on Highguard prior to its reveal "was quite positive," Sobel wrote: There was, apparently, a widespread expectation that the game was a sure-fire hit."

Getting playtests and mock reviews done by external partners can be a really good idea.
Laid-off Highguard developer cuts loose on the reaction to the infamous Game Awards reveal trailer: 'We were turned into a joke from minute one'
Former lead technical artist Josh Sobel says false assumptions and ragebait were major contributors to Highguard's failure to connect with players.

this death should hit you just as hard as the death of citizens. this death should make you filled with rage just like the death of citizens. not a single CBP or ICE agent deserves peace, they never have. Let them rot.
CBP didn’t give her or anyone any water; she asked 3 times accg to other reports. CBP killed a 7yr old.

Like I *get* it but it's pretty sad that the success of recontextualizing Kratos away from the chud male power fantasy into a character with some depth tied directly to the regret of *being* a chud male power fantasy is now we gotta remake the chud male power fantasy

So, is Geoffy-boy gonna talk about the layoffs from the game that he shilled and insisted we'd apologize to him over or nah?
Wildlight (Highguard) lays off staff according to a LinkedIn post

"Unfortunately, along with most of the team at Wildlight, I was laid off today.

This one really stings as there was a lot of unreleased content I was really looking forward to that I and others designed for Highguard."

"splurging on rotisserie chickens"

rotisserie chickens are famously LOSS LEADERS!! they cost LESS to purchase than they cost to produce, used to attract buyers with the promise of picking up precooked dinner along w groceries! you can't "splurge" on something cheaper per pound than raw chicken!

Discord's updated statement seems to be a little confused. The issue isn't that they're going to ID check everyone. It's the ID checking *anyone.*
