new: federal agents have targeted rideshare drivers at o'hare on at least ten separate days since october 10.

in some cases, agents returned to abduct drivers multiple times in a single day, taking as many as ten to 20 people each time.

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Abdullah. Abdullah was a tailor. He is very worried about his brother Ismail who is at risk of losing his leg after it was run over at an aid distribution site. He’s also taking care of Ismail’s children Tayseer, 15, Sahar, 12 and Hoor, 8.

This is accurate! SNAP is obviously important because it feeds people, but there is data showing it also reduces healthcare spending and has economic benefits too. As I always say, our country would gain a lot by spending even more on SNAP to give people true freedom in their food choices.

This is going to sound crass but SNAP is a more efficient use of money than food bank donations and if Republicans had done their jobs everyone would have food to eat, farmers would be getting paid and I could donate to different charitable causes this month than what should be covered by SNAP

I wanted to ask her how she’d come back. I wanted to ask her what it was like being dead. I wanted to ask her whether she knew why she’d been resurrected. I wanted to ask why she’d drawn into the shell of herself, refused the life she’d been given. I wanted to ask if she was going to leave me now. My mouth was as paralyzed as the rest of me, but Neely seemed to hear the questions anyway. She leaned down until her face was right up against mine. I could smell her breath, sweet and dirty and tinged with smoke.  “You want there to be reasons,” she said. “There aren’t, or if there are, I don’t know of any. Death is a hole you fall down and keep falling down forever. Death is when everything stays the same for you all the time. You don’t move forward anymore. Only farther down the hole.” Both her hands stroked my chest now. My naked skin shuddered into goosebumps.  “You can’t help me, Scout. You don’t even know who I am.” When I turn to him, he kneels. Scoops up that glittering thing from the gravel. Holds it out. Trembling, I take it. It chimes and sings as it leaves his wet, sticky fingers.  Once again, I won’t tell you what it is. Once again, some things should stay between lovers. But I put it in my back pocket, and he nods at me. For just an instant, I forget not to look at his face. It is nothing like a man’s face, or an owl’s, or an insect’s. I half-scream without meaning to. I fall into a supplicant’s bow, bruising my knees and the flats of my hands. I smell summer air and pine needles and the slightly sour tang of my own orgasm.  And when I raise my nose from the road, he’s gone again. I don’t even see him in the sky, winging away. Just the stars and the moon and the shadows of the tree tops. I head back to the car, because what else is gonna happen, really?  “Ms. Horvath lied,” she says to her Familiar after a little while. “Or maybe I’m just weak. I never stopped missing anybody. It’s been twenty years, and I still think about Emily every goddamn day. I sold all Ms. Horvath’s old crap in the end, didn’t keep a single ashtray, and I still see things that remind me of her all the time. Things she would’ve disapproved of, mostly.” The Witch manages a faint smirk. “She wouldn’t have approved of Laura. Doesn’t matter. They’ll never meet.” The Witch concentrates on her breathing for a few moments more. Liquid runs down her face from her right eye, from the socket-wound that once held her left. “Familiar,” she says, “I even miss my fucking mother. It doesn’t stop. As long as I remember them, they’re stuck inside my head. What good is magic, if …” The Witch doesn’t finish her sentence. She struggles into an upright position. She gets to her feet. Her Familiar blinks with moist, anxious crimson eyes. The thoughts were, in a way, like the thoughts about men that had come first when he was young. When he was twelve and thirteen, staring at the veins in the back of the Latin master’s hands. Staring at the gardener’s dark member protruding from muddy trousers as the laborer covertly pissed behind a tree. The boy Renfield sat in the bushes as though entombed. Looked out through a frieze of branches that scratched him whenever he chanced motion. Was entranced by the arcing stream of urine, the gardener’s bruised knuckles, the almost purple head from whence the urine came. Renfield knew what he was, then. He knew both that it was evil and that it was natural, that there was a sense and rightness to the thoughts he could not deny. Madness was the same—this other form of madness.
