It's horrifying watching the harassment of anyone who even mildly criticized Charlie Kirk or pointed out that e.g. thought some deaths by shooting were a reasonable price to pay for the 2nd amendment to the US constitution. He was terrible and his fandom is proving to be at least as bad.

Them: “you don’t need government supports like food or housing, that’s the church’s job!”

The Church: “Shames a homeless woman, films her and turns her away”

All she asked for was to sleep in their parking lot.

I am so upset.

Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdani’s inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/
To be asked to write about racism only to be racially aggressed in the editing process is a new level unlocked I have to say.

This is the kind of coverage that Teen Vogue just decided to stop doing.
dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

Oh no. Apart from Teen Vogue being excellent for news coverage, it was one of the few news sites Facebook hadn't blocked for Canadian [or presumed Canadian] readers. ARGH.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

When I was a kid I learned that some rehabbers raised Chimney Swift babies by having them cling onto a vest (they usually cling to the inside of chimneys, the bats of birds). I wanted to be that person so bad

These swifts are safely warming up after their home was wrecked, and I love that so much.
We rescued several Palm Swifts trapped after Hurricane Melissa. 🌪️
Here’s Iyana, a Life Sciences student, drying off some of the birds. 💚

I think my favorite thing about "every city reveals its inner character" era of ice protests is that people keep saying portland is weird or cute or nice or silly when one of the most common chants at the ice building is people looking up at feds on the roof and yelling "jump! jump! jump!" in unison
Portland resists with whimsical improv theater, Chicago resists by screaming at weird jagoffs that don’t belong in the neighborhood. Every city brings its own strengths to the fight
The energy we need is this suburban dad standing out in the street -- barefoot with Blackhawks pajama pants on -- screaming at the masked goons to get the fuck out of their neighborhood.

We are producing a detailed podcast series about this whole time period in Italy. This was part of a wider movement called self-reduction, whereby workers and local working class people would choose their own prices for many goods and services, and enforce them with strength in numbers.
Starting in Milan, in 73, revolutionary groups would mass up, go into supermarkets and chase out the bosses/security, get on the loudspeaker and declare everything free. They would then make revolutionary speeches while shoppers gleefully enjoyed the discount. They called this "proletariat shopping"
