Same weird forester/forest ecologist/occasional essayist you knew from Twitter. Just a big damn squirrel specializing in regenerative forestry practices and encouraging old growth character

Known by some as "Gandalf" and "That God Damned Tree Wizard"
Pinned
Be forewarned, I am deeply unserious about a great many things.

Yes.... a new glorious achievement in the competition between coleoptera and hymenoptera as to who will be the most diverse order of insects.

EVERYBODY KNOWS YOU CHEATED ON A BELICHICK LEVEL BY CRAMMING THOSE 108 SPECIES INTO PITHYOPTERUS, COLEOPTERA. DON'T TRY TO DENY IT.

ASK ME HOW MANY LABS I'M APPLYING TO AT UGA THAT HAVE OR HAVE HAD CHINESE GRAD STUDENTS IN THEM, HAVE CHINESE NATIONAL CO-AUTHORS, OR ARE LED BY CHINESE NATIONALS.

(pretty sure it's all of them! plant and life sciences know no borders!)
This has gotten surprisingly little attention — it's not even on the front page of @science.org right now — but it's really hard to describe what the SAFE Research Act would do to US science and scientists without sounding insane

I need EVERY “if we just tell people about science, it will fix this mess” person to read and internalize this.

If you want ppl to give af about science, try fighting for basic access, democracy, and freedom first…otherwise you’re completely missing the point and misreading the moment.

The world could be transformed into a paradise if we would simply adapt our infrastructure to be human-centric and respectful/complimentary to the surrounding ecosystems.

Also, if y'all would use those brown paper bags instead of plastic and then re-use them for projects around the house.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

It's critically important that communities make distinctions between e-bikes and e-motos when implementing regulations, and that starts with a solid definition of an e-moto. Lumping both into the same regulatory bucket will hinder the expansion of e-bikes as a powerful mobility tool.

This is the book written by Donald Barr, Bill's father who gave Epstein his start.

It is literally about elites who grow so powerful and untouchable they start doing increasing sexual sadism against teenagers just to feel something.

At the same time the NY Times was hyping Hillary Clinton's emails, it had a reporter with emails from Jeffrey Epstein that were highly damaging to Trump.

The more NYT apologists try to minimize this the clearer it becomes that they don't understand why much of the public doesn't trust legacy media.

I am not joking when I say the ICE wives and kids should be equal targets as the agents themselves. I promise you there are a lot of gold bracelets and rings with the imprinting for Guadalajara gold that these people could never explain with a straight face.

Things I love: Gore Verbinski when he gets to lean into his weirdness, Sam Rockwell being loud, Zazie Beetz doing anything, and weird time travel stories. It's like this movie was made in a lab just for me.

WHY sturgeon gotta be like that???
[wait for it]

North America’s largest freshwater fish (White Sturgeon) is obviously jealous of the second largest (Alligator Gar) with its armored scales, teeth, poisonous eggs, air-breathing…but I suppose barbels are cool? 😅

Your windshields should be absolutely covered in a sticky mess of bug splats/insect carcasses every time you drive across open country forcing you to stop periodically at gas stations to use their wet squeegees to try and clean up your view of the road at night
Thinking a lot about how poorly our brains recognize long term subtle changes, like climate change or biodiversity loss. We've lost something like 1 out of every 4 individual birds in the US since 1970, more for some species.

There should be at least 25% more birds around you right now.
