The new phones have AI that's more agentic and generative: AI processes the photo as it's being taken and saves the already enhanced picture in the gallery. That's all happening under the hood, without any user input, and without the possibility to turn that processing off. It's a software feature.

It’s not that smartphones are bad by any stretch of the imagination; some smartphone cameras are absolutely brilliant. But take a closer look, and even the best handsets leave telltale signs of overprocessing; whether it’s oversharpened skin textures from the Pixel’s portrait mode or overly dark shadows in Apple’s HDR algorithm.

You don’t have to take my word for it; the internet is plastered with complaints about overprocessing and artifacts found even in some of the best camera phones. And yet, brands seem determined to cram even more processing into mobile imaging in pursuit of modest boosts in image quality, rather than taking the plunge on better camera hardware. I’m looking at you, Samsung, and your years of identical camera specs.

🧵 I want to talk about why this pic sets off my uncanny valley alarms (spoiler: I don't think it's anything Hobi did with the photo. I think it's the phone's camera itself).

It's not that the hardware on phone cameras has gotten much better in recent years. It's that they have AI software built in.

We just found out our AI has been making up
analytics data for 3 months and I'm gonna
throw up.

So we've been using an Al agent since November to
answer leadership questions about metrics. It seemed
amazing at first fast answers, detailed explanations,
everyone loved it.
I just found out it's been hallucinating numbers this
entire time.
Our VP of sales made territory decisions based on
data that didn't exist. Our CFO showed the board a
deck with fake insights. The Al was just inventing
plausible sounding percentages.
I only caught it by accident when someone asked me
to double check something. I started digging, and
holy shit, it's bad.

CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.
