i want to point out the *content* of this critique of Hitler's rise to power at the beginning of the war: the countries of the world inexplicably scrambled to offer him cake after cake. it is easy to imagine the world somberly shaking their heads as he took power; it is easy to forget it was given.

When I first got to Minnesota years ago, my roomie and I (both transplants from Back East) shared a duplex building with two Somali grad students. They became great pals to us. We were all new to this strange place in varying degrees, and they really helped it feel like home. Trump’s a racist pig.
