Draw what you want! Sounds really basic but solely making art with the expectation of popularity + success will poison the well of your artistic spirit, and you won’t really develop an artistic voice if you’re just trying appease your audience at all times, save for a voice that actually isn’t yours

top tricks to learn for caves of qud: just because you have every psionic mutation and maxed out your ego and will doesn't mean you and your 30+ clones from cloning draught will be "invincible"

what will happen is that your mass of naked yous will simply mass teleport to enemies, and start kicking

What can history teach us about what happens when a populist strongman with an idiosyncratic taste for low interest rates undermines central bank independence?

In my latest run of Caves of Qud, I have found an abandoned(?) village full of tents made from human skin, bearing the text "Live and drink, pilgrim." One of the tents is full of sewing machines. Also there are domesticated mushrooms.

Pentiment taught me that there was a real life concept of strapping incendiary devices to cats and sending them into towns/castles to burn them down. Don't think it was ever actually used but wow

I don't remember where I read this advice but it made an impact on me: Make an NPC by anthropomorphizing an animal. Give them an animal-like feature. Give them an animal-like hobby. Give them an animal-like voice.

A Brian Jacques character is about as complex as an NPC needs to be.

"why read a book or obsess over a tv show featuring two gay men, then in real life treat them like monsters."

vile behavior from a supposedly progressive fanbase. do the hr fans realize representation is important because it reflects real marginalized groups, not because it they think it's sexy?
The latest HR nonsense: A gay man in Utah attends a watch party for the gay hockey show wearing a “Gay AF” t-shirt & is forced to leave the bar because multiple women complained to management about the presence of a man who they feared might get turned on by the TV show.

politically, the biggest problem with a lot of SF/F worlds is that they erase the working class. they may imagine political conflicts, they may feature oppressed or lumpen characters, but production seems to just happen without being a central contradiction in society.

You need to be willing to plant trees knowing you will never sit in their shade
oldhead advice from an oldhead.

every couple years, newcomers to the movement think "THIS is finally it, the moment when the dam breaks and the whole system is overthrown"

and when it doesn't happen they lose patience and get disillusioned and drop out of movement work

gotta build for long term
