Not actually Riggs. Sorry. I'm not even really a possum, I'm such a fraud. She/her I guess but I'd prefer if you just envisage me as a vague non-corporeal form, or maybe a brain in a fancy jar. With arms for typing & drawing, I suppose.

If you insist on pronouncing biopic like bio-pic, then you must also pronounce helicopter as helico-pter. Those are the rules!
Yessss.

Please remember that many mobile app keyboards log what you type to build up personal auto correct/predictive text libraries. Any app keyboard could potentially be hijacked, and many are run by orgs that will happily hand your data over on request. Signal does not control your keyboard app.
A thing that you can do right now to support your community is to download and install the SIGNAL messaging app and learn how to use it *before* ICE/CBP attacks your city.

One thing I will say about food in the UK which probably leads to some of the misunderstandings: our chain restaurants are often bad. Not as bad now as they used to be, but still often bad. If you're from the US eating in them is probably an easy mistake to make.

THANK YOU. I have no national pride, this country is shit in so many ways, but the endlessly stupid British food discourse drives me up the wall. (Aside from being nonsense based on very little, there's usually a hefty dose of classism involved.)
My food-related hot take is that British food is delicious, it’s just not photogenic.

It drives me nuts how many "fully remote" jobs say near the end of the listing that there are actually 1-4 in-person events a year which are mandatory, or heavily implied to be. Often this is presented as a positive.

In my latest run of Caves of Qud, I have found an abandoned(?) village full of tents made from human skin, bearing the text "Live and drink, pilgrim." One of the tents is full of sewing machines. Also there are domesticated mushrooms.

I this this mostly explains my misgivings about the slide I reskeeted earlier. I would need more context on the argument around preservation, but it seems to set "art" and "consumer product" as being in opposition, and that can itself be damaging.
But also most art is a consumer product and to try to differentiate between the two does a disservice to understanding art
January 10, 2026 at 10:16 PM
Books are a consumer product but society generally believes they should be both preserved and made accessible. I realise this is only one slide from a presentation, but it seems an odd argument?
That's what I'm talking about.

A variant on this that I've seen are the people who do think AI is useful in their job (mostly C suite, senior management, etc. plus some software devs), who seem to presume it will be even more effective in every other desk based job.
the discourse on what jobs are acceptable to replace with generative AI reveals a lot about what we think of other people's jobs

I have really been enjoying the uptick in new Caves of Qud players in my social media sphere lately. I am super enjoying seeing other people get into the game for the first time, it's so fun seeing people make various discoveries.
January 9, 2026 at 9:54 AM
There's a feed called the "For You" feed and I highly recommend it, it's what Discover would be in a better world. It's like 30% Caves of Qud posts for me, and a lot of the rest is art.

Google is now running Gemini ads, including one suggesting thar Stranger Things is just too long for you to possibly watch, so you could ask Gemini which episodes are worth watching and get a summary of the rest of the plot.

So the vast majority of us hate generative AI in games. I think the only difference between most people is whether they hold their nose and put up with it, or refuse to play games with it in. We all need to do the latter, because with numbers like this there's no reason to give in.

This. Thishisthis. I feel like I must sound hyperbolic any time I talk about how good Caves of Qud feels on controller, but it's true. There are multiple games I'm not playing because they feel bad on controller now. The aim/move thing sounds weird at first, but is fantastic in practice.
I feel like caves of qud's controller setup is so good that it should just become the canonical controller layout for roguelikes from now on. it's so good I might actually prefer it to mouse and keyboard. Wildly underappreciated revolutionary genre work in that one element alone

2025 has been unrelentingly shit, just a year of getting kicked while I'm already down. But I am wearing @thebetaband.com socks & have tickets to see them next year - something I never thought would happen given they split over 20 years ago - and it's so nice to have something to look forward to.

This is fantastic. And well done on reaching the $3000 stretch goal Billy, MSF is such a great cause, and the Hot Potato is such a fun way of raising money for them.
I made a little compilation of all the raw sweet potato bites we took during my Rimworld Hot Potato turn! Thanks so much to everyone for being so very generous and giving money to such a wonderful cause <3

I've seen more than a few Redwall series enjoyers around here, so here's one of my most prized possessions: a copy of Mossflower signed by Brian Jacques for me. It was at some sort of book fair, he must have been promoting it post release.
