Leftish socially aware small business owner. (Yes a Chippy!) Living in Belfast. Loves politics, my husband and my French Bulldog Cybil. (In reverse order!) Hates Brexit and all those involved in it.
Also love cars, any type any age. Yes I’m that sad.
Worth a read. @writesbright.bsky.social makes a couple of very and illuminating points. Excellent.

The DUP voted for Brexit, the country didn’t. The DUP wanted the hard border returned, the country didn’t. The DUP wanted never to have the border poll… you know the rest…

Signed, a Belfast resident.
Excellent piece by @emmadesouza.bsky.social in Irish News.

A quick 🧵on why it may not actually be a choice.

TL;DR: English Nationalists and their planned ECHR exit only takes a few months, rips up the Good Friday Agreement and suggests NI does not feature in their future plans.

I have a radical solution to this problem. Listen to the victims.

No, actually listen.
Time and again we see a woman come forward to speak out about the harm a powerful man has caused. But she’s met with disbelief, indifference or disdain.

It’s time we fight back and put the blame back where it belongs – on the perpetrators.

If only we had a progressive and courageous government?

I know, but I can dream of the impossible…
If the Brexit ref was held today, Remain would win by over 8 million votes💥 That huge majority comes from old Leavers dying, young pro-EU voters entering the electorate and millions changing their mind. It's time for the big parties to accept this reality and aim their policies toward #Rejoin 🇬🇧🇪🇺

The government are only interested in today’s news cycle not the future health and wealth of its citizens…
Labour's plans to "reform" SEND in schools will not only will deny children much needed support, but they aren't even fiscally practical. It is well documented that better funding of SEN and support early on helps reduce later life costs, e.g. with healthcare.

No one questioned which side he was on…
Extraordinary: Mandelson told Epstein that JP Morgan should "threaten" then cabinet colleague and chancellor Alistair Darling over tax on bankers' bonuses. In plain language: "Minister conspired with US bank against own government".

Shocked to read this, shocked, shocked I tell you.

Who would have thought?
So from the people that know him well, Farage is as nasty and unpleasant as he appears to be. His vile persona and bigotry is of course the attraction for his dimwit fans.
From the other place.

I'm English.
I lived in Poland for a long time.
I've talked to people who heard those boots stamp up their garden paths, and I've talked to Americans who came to help silence those boots.
And, dear America... I love you.
But helping us then gives you no fucking idea what you're walking into now.

@gylesnamopaleen.bsky.social is definitely worth a follow if you are interested in insightful commentary especially about NI.
BP won't be for another few years. 2029 is my bet.

Seat distribution and commentary from the weekends BelTel poll (an unionist leaning paper) suggests it's way too tight for a BP and NI Assembly restructuring looks likely. 👇

Next Assembly election is May 2027.

How much stronger would it and us be in it?

@tobyontv.bsky.social hits the nail on the head.

The eternal shame is that it won’t end them…
that Farage and Badenoch want ICE-style action in the UK should be enough to end them

@profjacob.bsky.social clearly sets out the EU position as usual.

The UK must align itself with the EU. The USA is now no friend at all.
