wish I had something clever here but this is too personal. this fucking brutally ignorant asshole can't fuck off into the sun quickly enough.
Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

The reason people think the Democratic Party doesn't actually stand for anything is because it doesn't.

One of the reasons conspiracy theories gain followers in these times is that the mess of petty self-interests and power dynamics and class bubbles inevitably forms corrupt coherences regardless of any central intent, regardless of the lack of a real shadowy cabal.

the thing that upsets me about this the most is that Dems had all the momentum, republicans were reeling, and we were getting intra-GOP fighting over the filibuster, all while voters were blaming republicans for their incompetence

this destroys all of this. just a total gut punch

At some point we have to let pain hurt Trump instead of helping him. Every time we let pain help him, he’ll do more and bigger next time.

Each acquiescence means the next one will be *more* painful.

i don’t play pundit and try to guess how stuff will play to voters whose politics generally make no sense to me, but if ending the shutdown was about the important business of getting SNAP benefits and air travel back online, it also rewards hostage taking in a way that seems pretty ominous to me

The Dems *just* won on Tuesday. They couldn’t ride that wave off the call for strong leadership for even a fucking week! What the hell was the shutdown even for then? Fucking hell, even my own Senator voted for this shit. #newdemleadership

The lesson that Schumer learned from the March debacle:
- do a better job timing the cave to Trump so it happens on Sunday night, not during the day when offices can be lobbied
- do a better job picking senators who are retiring or not up in '26 to vote aye
- make sure you don't have to vote aye

I think in our analysis you trust us to take a position but at least analyze the alternative. In this case there is no alternative. There is no political advantage to this deal. None.

Amid the talk about Dems "caving," we can also imagine senators hearing from anguished SNAP recipients who can't feed their kids, fed'l employees who can't pay their rent, and constituents who can't go home for T'giving, and figuring, we'll fight this battle another day www.axios.com/2025/11/09/s...
Deal to end government shutdown in reach
At least 10 Senate Democrats are expected to support a key procedural motion.

Schumer and the Dems are about to teach Trump the lesson that they’ll cave whenever he abuses power to sufficiently hurt people.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

👇🎯 Unfortunately, this is true & probably the only way. Voters need to realize that hating government, & illegally defunding & dismantling it, & pretending that we can run a modern society/economy on Ronald Reagan's shabby talking point & worn copies of Atlas Shrugged & Mein Kampf is untenable.
Democrats have to stop bailing out Republicans from facing the consequences of their own policies. And yeah, that means they have to stop sparing voters from experiencing what GOP government truly means.

Every time Dems step in, it only emboldens the GOP & they make it even worse the next time.
So Democrats get:

1. A CR that will prevent the GOP from facing the wrath of Americans for a shutdown over the holidays

2. A coupon for one (1) meaningless ACA vote that will fail

3. An end to the illegal RIF/SNAP moves that are already before the courts

Those all seem like wins for the GOP.

We polled Indivisible members over the weekend on whether Dems should take a deal or keep fighting for the ACA subsidies. Results: 98.67% said keep fighting.

Dems who vote to surrender now are fracturing their own party in a way that will reverberate loudly in the primaries.

One would think if you were retiring you'd have nothing to lose and go out "guns-a-blazin" using every moral fiber of your being to resist the authoritarian takeover of the government. One would think.

Respectfully disagree. Dems have momentum since 10/18, huge election wins, and the majority of Americans recognize the shutdown and the SNAP disaster are the fault of Republicans. Walking away empty-handed is political malpractice.

I'm hearing the same thing. Dems are nearing a surrender. I'm shocked. Largest protest in history + best election night in years + polling showing we're kicking their ass in public opinion. And now Dems may cave.

It ain't over til it's over, so please do call if you've got a Dem senator.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

With a “WOW!,” President Trump posts a claim about DOGE and “royalties linked to Obamacare” that originated on a satirical website. That site’s own About section reads: “Everything on this website is fiction… If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.”
