Over 40% of corn grown in Indiana is used to make ethanol that cars burn. One acre of corn yields about 16,500 vehicle-miles per year of ethanol, which sounds high until you realize that one acre of solar yields about 2,700,000 vehicle-miles per year: 16,000% more driving for a given plot of land.

Wow! Montreal’s public bike share system (BIXI) was featured in the TIME Best Inventions Hall of Fame for 2008, not far from the iPhone and Google Street View.

While not the very first bike sharing system, it was one of the earliest and it was the model for many other systems, from NYC to London.

Reliability and frequency is more important than anything else. If people don't need to worry about when the bus will come, or if the bus will come, then they will use it. Especially if it gets them to their destination on time

They won't use it if it makes them late b/c the only bus never came
The #1 piece of advice that TransLink's CEO offers other North American transit agencies:

Provide frequent service

I hadn’t used the Transit app in a long time since I rarely take the bus in Halifax anymore, but it’s added more sustainable transportation options for our city, including directions for walking, biking, Bird micromobility and Communauto Flex in addition to taking the bus or ferry.

There are plenty of racist people in Canada, and Trump and US politics are enabling them. Normalizing the behaviour we see from US politicians, gives the racists who live here want to speak their mind too. We must oppose this at all costs, we want people to come here and thrive and help our economy

I’m impressed with Chender here for plainly stating that we need more housing in general, not just more public housing. And she’s right we need investment in Halifax Water and the power grid so that we can build in the right places, instead of just enabling more greenfield development.

How to relieve traffic congestion, guaranteed:

Support density, sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and high quality public transit. Give people more reasons to stay out of cars and the road will open up to you.

An adult driver angry at a child they hit with their car.

Our car culture summed up in one video.
Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.
