"In 2008, Le Guin was asked what gave her hope for the future. She answered, “The age, and the vastness, and the vast complexity of the earth and all its creatures. No matter how we try to cut it down to our size, we’ll fail; and in our failure lies our hope.” "
When I wrote this a year ago I had no idea how bad things would get. Today, eight years after she left us, I'm trying to follow Ursula's advice: write and worry. Write and act. Worry and keep writing.

It's cold outside and snowy, too! Is climate change a hoax?

Not at all. Winter still brings cold weather even as the planet warms.

In fact, warmer oceans + a rapidly warming Arctic can even increase the intensity of winter storms and heavy snowfall.

That's why I call it Global Weirding!

Bondi's letter—essentially offering to stop attacking and murdering citizens in Minnesota in exchange for the state's voter rolls—shows what Trump, Miller et al. are really after:

They want to fuck with the nation's elections so that they never have to cede power or answer for their crimes.
In the wake of another fatal shooting in Minneapolis.
AG Pam Bondi sends Gov. Walz a letter today making several asks including:
"Allow DOJ Civil Rights division access to state voter rolls"

Everyone, whether Republicans or Democrats, bent over backwards to give him chance after chance.

It’s absolutely absurd how much leeway he was given.

After stolen top secret documents were discovered, he should have been in jail immediately. But he wasn’t - for reasons…

On the year anniversary week of Trump in office for a second time, we seem to have literal death squads patrolling the streets of Democratic-run cities.

But sure it was all Trump Derangement Syndrome when some of us were warning about the impending fascism back in 2024. 🤷🏽‍♂️😡

Read this and consider how these two women who, after being attacked by violent thugs, literally saved the life of their abuser.
And then ICE continued taking them hostage.
People who work with this administration in its pursuit of fascism are not part of the same social contract that we are.
Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two don’t know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agent’s life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed.

Detained by ICE, two women became first responders during agent’s seizure
The women say they guided agents through the emergency, later raising concerns about medical protocols, weapons safety and accountability.

Breaking MS NOW:

Aides to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche directed the U.S. Attorney's office and FBI agents in Minnesota to shut down the civil rights investigation into the fatal shooting of Renee Good and instead alter it to probe Good for possible criminal liability.
DOJ sought to probe Renee Good for criminal liability, even after her death: Sources

Republicans were wiped out in 2008. For the next two years, they made Democrats’ lives hell obstructing, and they effectively succeeded in their goal of pushing the Overton window to the right. There’s no way why Democrats can’t do that now.
We took all power away from the Democrats and now we blame them for being weak.

and you have to apologize to everyone for existing as a normal person

Deeply misogynistic shit

the idea of a woman having to apologize for being seen in public because of her sexual history would have been unthinkable ten years ago. we've reverted SO MUCH on gender/feminism and Gen Z women have no idea what they're missing out on

I partly agree, but I think you’d have to go back further than 10 years. The Aughts were IMO the most sexworker-positive era I have experienced in my Gen X life. I regard Gamergate as a pivotal event in organized online anti-feminism and especially anti-sexworker sentiment, and that started in 2014

The reason Trump denies climate change & lies about clean energy — relentlessly! in every speech! — is that he knows the decarbonization of the global economy is what would *really* disempower him and his allies.

By not talking about climate change, you're playing right into Trump's hands.
The really telling thing is - if you wanted to belittle and disempower Trump, mentioning wind power, dismissing fossil fuels as shitty and outdated and weak, talking about the benefits of climate action etc all work brilliantly

Trump mentioned specifically clean energy more than Carney did!
Am I the only one who didn’t like Mark Carney’s speech?

Its whole premise was that we need “stop pretending,” to “name realities,” yet somehow he doesn’t mention climate change even once.

And worse than that…

Trump keeps trying to deny climate change and denigrate clean energy because he knows that decarbonizing to net zero would drain the source of authoritarian power.

Climate silence only helps Trump.
Trump: "There are windmills all over Europe. There are windmills all over the place. And they are losers. One thing I've noticed is that the more windmills a country has, the more money that country loses, and the worse that country is doing. I haven't been able to find any wind farms in China."

As progressives, we often talk about how things are layered or connected.

Lets chat for a second.

We live in a society that sees poverty as a moral failing. Being poor is a sin. A sign of criminality. And thats why this society tolerates sweeping homeless encampments and arresting the homeless

I will unironically cast my vote to a third party before I vote for Newsom. I would leave that portion of the ballot blank if I have to. If Democrats want to capitulate to fascists so badly, then fine. Failure in 2028 will be entirely on them.
