The drunk uncle theory.

You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there
agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with
The secret to engaging in social media debate is knowing you will never win anyone over. The best you can hope for is to have people who already agree with tell you you're awesome. You might great a dopamine thrill from the righteousness of your anger! Fine benefits, all. But you will never win.

the far right in America are attempting to smokescreen their own abuse of children, on a large scale. queer people and upsetting art are easy scapegoats. in reality, they’re the culprits. from Epstein to Erika Kirk - the people warning you about “perverts” are the most Godless and craven.

What offends me about this is just that it's so fucking stupid. Every time some group brutalizes another, the brutalizers conclude the people they're brutalizing are inhuman savages. It's happened 100,000 times before in history. Congrats to Brianna on being 100,001st, what an achievement.

If I were a Democrat concerned about winning elections and was hearing that a significant number of voters wouldn’t support Gavin Newsom in 2028, I would simply stop pushing Gavin Newsom in 2026.
look if you want to freak out about people not voting newsom if he's the nominee a week before the 2028 general election, I kinda get it (but don't say you weren't warned). doing it now though is just a weird attempt to strong arm people into supporting him in the primary.
I think most (not all) of the "I will never vote for Gavin Newsom" people are communists who are mad that Americans don't like communism and want to destroy the Democratic party out of revenge. They don't care how many elections Republicans win or how many trans people die as long as the Dems fall.

I do think there’s a certain type of Democrat that realizes it’s possible we are dealing with a perfect storm where almost any Democrat will win, and are terrified we might nominate radical candidates who will actually engage in needed change instead of status quo corporate centrist bullshit.
One of the interesting things this time around is just how hollow the whole thing sounds. In the past, people have been able to use the empty concept of electability to anoint and position the person they demanded, but now that Republicans are getting obliterated everywhere, that doesn't work.

It's kind of incredible how fast the "curtains are fucking blue" meme falls apart when you actually start writing in any capacity because why the fuck would you include a detail like that if it didn't matter. Why would you put any time and effort into any detail that doesn't matter to the story

the world order effectively letting the palestinian genocide occur with no real objections has effectively dropped the formalities around pretending to care about genocide in the post-ww2 era and so the 21st century will be marked by more genocides & attempts to depoliticize them

My god do we need UBI

“Researchers have found that when a new plasma center opens in a neighborhood, foot traffic at local grocery stores increases, interest in payday loans declines and crime goes down, an indication of the way money from plasma props up households’ finances for necessities.“
Middle-class Americans are selling their plasma to make ends meet
Last year, people in the U.S. made an estimated $4.7 billion selling their plasma. Donation centers are popping up in middle-class neighborhoods, including suburban strip malls and college towns.
