Nothing is settled; everything can still be altered. What was done but turned out wrong, can be done again. The Golden Age, which blind superstition had placed behind [or ahead of] us, is in us.

Worth reminding everyone that the current highest ranking Democrat in America openly admits he bases his decisions on what he thinks an imaginary person would want and today he and most of his allies are struggling to understand how somebody like Mamdani won by talking to voters who actually exist

Mamdani is going to impose Bendtner Law. Everyone will have to sign a document saying Nicklas Bendtner is the greatest striker of all time.
mamdani is going to impose mississippi masala law. everyone will have to watch his mother's movies and realize how much we've undervalued her at the expense of white female filmmakers who fit more easily into our understanding of "feminist cinema" or whatever.
Mamdani is going to impose Santana law. Everyone will have to duet with Rob Thomas.

Sleep Phase
Mohamed Kheir

National Book Award longlist. Compact, punchy, Post-Arab Spring lit with a nod toward Kafka, and another toward someone like Cesar Aira in Kheir’s conjuring of a dreamworld. Fantastic book.

It's only appropriate that I started this on a day I was wearing a Fall t-shirt and a friend left a vm using Mark E Smith voice. It begins with a MES quote and references to the Fall are peppered throughout. A fun, manic read...like a Fall song on the page.
The Four Spent the Day Together
Chris Kraus

Loved this! A compelling read that felt semi documentarian. The depiction of addiction was so real it was unsettling to read. I never read I Love Dick but I’ll go back to it now.

Kaba is quoted in Kelly Hayes's powerful essay, the latter writes: "I see you, Chicago. I see you brave and beautiful in your cars, tailing ICE vehicles. I see you charging out of your homes before you’ve brushed your teeth to blow your whistles, shout down ICE agents, and hold onto your neighbors."

It's not really a coincidence that the people who freak out the most about Mamdani are also the people most feverishly opposed to anything, anything at all being done to punish Israel behavior that virtually everyone agrees is bad

The motte and bailey this guy and thousands of other pro Israel pundits do on this is really quite pernicious. They talk about supporting two states and Palestinian freedom in the abstract and then call you an antisemite if you suggest that a settler who kills a Palestinian should be jailed.

Two years ago I interviewed a 31-year-old NY state assemblymember about a 7-year-old girl killed by an SUV driver in his district. I hung up the phone, astonished that I'd talked to a legislator who so thoughtfully articulated what actually needs to change on our streets.

Oh hey look it’s the group Patel labeled domestic extremists not being able to properly identify the enemy
The ADL has decided to treat fascists as allies and progressives as enemies. For a group that is tasked with protecting American Jews, that is a world historic fuck up.

I will never forgive these people for their moral decrepitude.

Mamdani Created a Left-Liberal Coalition on Israel/Palestine
The surprising story of the New York mayoral campaign is not liberal Zionist opposition to Mamdani’s campaign, but their support.

Sliwa is all bluster. 3 years ago he vowed to go into Astoria ("the belly of the beast"!) and beat leftists and return NYC to its natural state.

How's that going? Tiffany Caban was just on the ballot for reelection...unopposed. A mouth bigger than his brain.

Zohran's victory was the culmination of a project that started many years ago and wouldn't be possible without DSA, the organizing force behind many great NYC victories. Until I joined in 2018 I was a leftist in the wilderness. Joining was the best political move I've ever made. JOIN JOIN JOIN!
Okay, I warn you: This is gonna be a long one.

I warn you further still: It's gonna be me telling you to join DSA. So if that bothers you for whatever reason, mute or unfollow or block or do whatever it is you gotta do.

But if you stick around, I'll try to make it worth your while.
