if I'm an ATC who took one measly sick day since it was fucking October and my kid had a cold I am *incandescent* over this.
The President wouldn't last five minutes as an air traffic controller, and after everything they've been through - and the way this administration has treated them from Day One - he has no business shitting on them now.

Also, threatening people, especially highly-trained people who have been doing a profoundly difficult and stressful job that determines the safety of MILLIONS of people each day *without pay for 6 weeks*, seems like a weird way to encourage people to show up at work
Replacing "air traffic controllers" with "true patriots" seems like a good way to kill lots of people

seeing some takes like, "it was clear the gop wasn't going to budge on subsidies, so they had no choice”
and i simply don’t understand why someone would go out of their way to announce publicly that they are a mewling coward. a gutless milksop. to admit that they’re loser who loves to lose.

The message for Democrats is, "Republicans held food for kids hostage so they could make sure your healthcare costs skyrocket."
Angry as I am with Hassan, Shaheen, et al., the GOP is trying to deny SNAP payments to recipients and to block states' efforts to pay them. They are literally determined to starve the people they see as undeserving.
I've made my position very clear tonight that I think the healthcare fight is too important to leave to a "maybe" future vote but this is absolutely right.
And it's why blame MUST be placed first and foremost on the GOP and their merciless hostage-taking.

I will not support a deal that does nothing to make health care more affordable.
We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.
A vote for this bill is a mistake.

They've literally negotiated themselves into a new clusterfuck because they wanted to teabag the capitulating Senate Dems.
Republicans can't help themselves. They are authentically terrible at politics now.

if they don't fix Obamacare credits and/or fuck it by replacing it with HSAs, next year is going to be uhhhh a healthcare election

@schumer.senate.gov @cantwell.senate.gov @murray.senate.gov I've already called to express this and @aoc.bsky.social understands that the People do not want any of you to back down on the hope that Republicans will keep their word later. We know they won't. You know they won't. Let's act like it.
The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.
The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.
People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.
And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

I took a break from watching the Seahawks pummel the Cardinals to call @cantwell.senate.gov (and @murray.senate.gov) & respectfully but firmly ask them to NOT vote yes on any bill that does not extend ACA credits. If you're in WA you should too. You can use the @5calls.org app!
reading the piece, Maria Cantwell is the only one quoted as even entertaining this

Following up on this. This remains a ‘cave is minutes or hours away’ situation. If you want to impact how this plays out you need to contact senators literally now. I want to add additional points of context. What I’m relaying is what I’ve picked up from highly reliable sources.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

I don't think the founders really considered that they needed a contingency should the House decide to abolish itself

God they are such dicks
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

In 1912, a group of Polish and Franco-Belgian women weavers abruptly marched out of one of the mills in response to the mill owner trying to cut wages. This brave move of defiance inspired other workers in the area who were sick of being exploited and soon the strike spread to some 20,000 workers.
