A million times this
I fear that men are about to do what men do. They are about to characterize any sober thinking about power as non-technical and therefore unserious.

We have seen this pattern over and over again in tech criticism. Women and people of color repeatedly lead on understanding tech changes.

So openAI's commercial about Codex featuring science and tech didn't include any women because we're all too smart to use AI, right?

I actually agree that there is going to be a skill gap between people who regularly use AI vs those who refuse to use it, and it's that after the bubble pops the refusers will be fine while the AI-dependent will be missing or have let atrophy basic skills

I love supporting independent journalism and creators, but relying on a Substack/Patreon model to fund everyone isn't practical unless we all suddenly get Catherine de Medici rich

If that does happen, I call dibs on the poison gloves, but until then we need real investment in independent media

I have been told for ten years that calling your representatives is very important and makes a big difference, and I'll be honest, I have not seen an ounce of evidence to support that in the behavior of congress

A world of pure imagination. So thrilled we've decided to tank the environment and world economy for this
I think I might take one of these "under 20 minutes" AI skills courses the UK Govt. seems very keen on everyone doing and live-post it here... Maybe we can all learn something together! The press release sends me to aiskillshub.org.uk/aiskillsboost/ - let's go and see!

There was a chance for a real discussion on whether new companies were at a disadvantage compared to the legacy designers and how best to handle that.
When your backers are all the tech bros who are happy to pull the profit ladder up behind them, it's clear you don't really want THAT discussion
Secretly rewriting rules is not how the nuclear industry builds trust. Allowing microreactor developers to employ a move fast and break things ethos is not good for anyone except their investors short term pocketbooks. Not good for the environment, the public, even the nuclear industry
EXCLSUVIE: The Trump administration has secretly rewritten nuclear safety rules and shared them with the companies they're meant to regulate, without making the new rules publicly available.

We've obtained a copy of the new rules and here's what we found.

can I just get clarification on who "we" is in this sentence, because it seems to me that the person who invented the resource-guzzling shit extruder and profits from the resource-guzzling shit extruder is surely the one who needs to come up with a purpose for the resource-guzzling shit extruder.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

For years I would constantly tweet and tweet and retweet about politics. I didn’t help a single person doing that. It just eroded my mental health a little every day. I promise that actually DOING something, even one small thing, feels a lot better than reposting a million memes.
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of finding one constructive real world offline thing you can do to use your particular skills in service of fighting fascism as a psychological defense against the constant drumbeat of fuckery
my hot take is that I don't think it's this website specifically that's toxic. the Circumstances are toxic and nobody really knows what to do about it so they come online and scream. and if I may offer an alternative: actually going outside and screaming feels better.

I don’t want technofeudalism. I don’t want newer, bigger machines that can do all my thinking and experiencing for me.

I want to read books, play my instruments, make art, be with loved ones, and spend time outside without these activities feeling like luxuries I have to make special time for.
