So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

Also, men often fail to recognize that their need to be viewed as rational, logical, and not ruled by their emotions, is an emotional need.
Because if we're able to describe why something is good or bad we think we won't be judged for *feeling* good or bad about it. We're avoiding being vulnerable.

We say men are less emotional because we coincidentally don't define anger or reacting because of ego as emotions.

"World's first potential trillionaire has killed 600,000 people, including 400,000 children" is the only headline that anyone should ever read about Elon Musk
One analytical model shows that, as of November 5th, the dismantling of U.S.A.I.D. has already caused the deaths of 600,000 people, two-thirds of them children. https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/jUzNSc

it doesn’t get any clearer that america’s betrothal to fossil fuels is about letting energy companies pick our pockets to prop up their obsolete industry

Chelsea Fagan talks a lot about how what wealth means in this country is not having to interact with the poor
The super wealthy are also spending their money on bunkers, private islands and yachts. They talk about building new countries and cities. They seem less interested in admiration for their civic virtue and more interested in separation from the rest of us.
When Tucker talks about aesthetics, why doesn't he talk about the crappy clothes elites wear today? Or the architecture projects they should be funding?
The wealthiest today are funding space projects. Perhaps that'll save civilization (I don't know), but I wish some money would go to artisans.

part of the reason people don't want the history of this period taught or understood is to make this illegible to people. it's easy to swallow thought ending cliches about which venerated figure was a "man of their times" if you remain studiously unaware of what their times actually were

As far as these oligarchs are concerned, all science does is tell them stuff they cannot do.
They can't keep spewing carbon.
They can't keep businesses open as usual when millions are dying.
They have concluded that research is the enemy of profit.

Hiding homelessness doesn't solve it. We can't celebrate this data as a win in partnership with our unhoused neighbors. Sadly this reflects an uptick in MPD aggression & makes vulnerable people more invisible. We need a humane response—not "out of sight, out of mind".

MPD says there are zero significant homeless encampments left in the city
Police Chief Brian O'Hara says there were 15 homicides at encampments last year, drug use was running rampant, and change had to be made.

I understand the “told ya so” appeal of thinking T/R voters will be financially hurt by the policies and then regret it… but I don’t think it’s realistic. MANY will gladly take a financial hit to advance white supremacy. Worth it to them.

Seems like has been very little coverage of protests happening in the U.S.--not necessarily an intentional media blackout (although possibly), but the result of a longstanding stance in legacy media that protests aren't worth covering, activists aren't credible sources (but somehow CEOs are), etc.

Don't trust "AI" and also realize that the push to have "AI" in everything happened because some tech people wanted to get rich and other tech people didn't want others to get rich without them, and now they've all spent too much money on a bad product and are trying to scramble out of the hole.
Columbia Journalism Review tested eight generative AI search tools and found their answers were wrong 60% of the time, and the paid ones actually fared worse than the free ones.
Meanwhile, millions of people trust the way they present total bullshit with confident language.

My vote: none
They have plenty of things to do to address the disaster they have created. Let's focus on that. Make them pay their bills first. Address methane emissions, etc.
