The skinny on this is that *any* grant can be terminated at *any* time for *any* reason, making planning impossible.

And, for me personally, the insistance that all of this is totally secular, totally *unconnected* to the celebration of Jesus' birth, that only a grump wouldn't participate, is one of the most uncomfortable things about it.

For Huss (the owner of this magazine), the connective tissue between his Christian Identity theology & his faith in "natural" foods was the idea that there were "pure" things (like white Christians & spirulina) & "impure" things (like Jews, non-white people, & soda pop).

In this 1978 magazine published by a food faddist, we learn that Debby Boone was a poorly behaved, caffeine and junk food addicted brat of a kid who had rejected both God and her father Pat, but then she started eating right, drinking raw goats milk, and everything started going right in her life.

When I was young I remember seeing a holiday special of Puzzle Place where the Christian character hangs the Jewish character’s menorah on the Christmas tree and then is surprised when she gets mad. It’s the best representation I’ve seen of how I feel every year.

Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

I write this thread because we’re about to head into corporate holiday parties and events, and it’s a time I dread because of the “secular” celebrations that remind me how much an outsider I really am, more so than if you just called a holiday party a Christmas party.

Until a few years ago, ugly holiday sweaters didn’t exist. They’re ugly Christmas sweaters, with some generic Jewish iconography to be “inclusive.” But the truth is, when I have to buy one to wear to a work party, I feel like I’m in another culture’s drag.

And nothing bad about Jews who want to fit in and get ugly Channukah sweaters! But not every culture has a holiday in December (and, indeed, Hannukah can be in November).

The continuing irony that Christians think Channukah (a holiday about public resistance to assimilation) is just Jewish Christmas. And that if they paint a Christmas tradition blue and white, that makes it fully a Channukah thing.

Your yearly reminder that “holiday” celebrations that only include Christian traditions are not, in fact, inclusive even if you don’t use the word Christmas, so tbh I’d rather you just say it’s Christmas.

It gets lost in the shuffle, but the Speaker of the House is someone who, by all rights, should’ve had his career ended a decade ago by a Shreveport TV news investigative team.
Fond memories of that time Mike Johnson was president of a local law school that never opened its doors, in part because it was attached to a Baptist college that was losing its accreditation, and in part because it was always a scam from the start
Mike Johnson -- who is, yes, theoretically a lawyer -- has not had a chance to look at the American Constitution because he's been very busy lately, folks, he just can't see everything, gosh, how is he supposed to know if it's wrong that the president called for the execution of congress members?

This powerful naval term is so apropos. Enemies have climbed aboard, wrecking and causing mayhem - trying to sink us all. It doesn't matter what side they say they're on. The enemies are the ones looting, burning, and shooting holes in the vessel.

Throw them overboard!

Agreed. It’s generally not acceptable to blanket “hate” any segment of humanity for their immutable characteristics. Children are people. They are a special class of people with caretaking needs. You don’t have to want to be the one to provide for those needs, but you do need to respect them
I think that if you HATE children, you suck. If you’re not good with them or don’t want them or would prefer to not be around them, that’s cool and should be considered normal.

But you HATE kids? You hate the FUTURE? Time must really be beating your ass, idk!

A story from my dad. When his college girlfriend aced a class one time, she was very surprised to get a B. She confronted her professor, and he told her she had done A work, but he never gave women A's, as people would assume they slept together.
August 2002, Bio 101 for pre-med majors. Male professor told us to look left, look right. Only one of the three of us would graduate pre-med. Then he smirked "and if one of you three is a woman, I doubt it'll be you." That's how I started my freshman year.
In honor of Larry Summers, I asked the female members of my college class (1987) to say if they had any experiences with sexual harassment by teachers/professors, back when this was tolerated as, I dunno, the cost of attending college, and OH MY GOD.
