One of my standard Remembrance Day things is trawling war poetry that isn't the standard WWI-era canon. Henry Lee's "Three Years After" and Anna Świrszczyńska's "Building the Barricade" have spent a few years rattling through my head as a result of that.

Today, when people who have never known fear or loss from armed conflict tell you to honour a uniform or that you must without fail venerate a poppy, instead, sit with some Sassoon poems.

Tomorrow, write angry letters to end conflicts and bring justice.

When you are utterly ignorant of a discipline, its practices & conventions often seem arcane or useless.

This is not because the standards are flawed.

It's because you haven't done enough relevant work to appreciate (or meaningfully critique) their application.

Rough when you're the boss, though.
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

Round two of the "Jeebus Murphy these Headlights Suck"...

Got new bulbs from www.hidvisioncanada.ca

This bulb has a fan on the base and a little external block of electronics. It all fits just fine inside the well of the headlight assembly of my fourth gen Escape.

Amid the various hand-wringing, it's not a bad thing to go back and read Trump's speech from 6 January.

It reminds us that five and half years ago, this elderly gentleman was clearly quite separated from reality and his faculties.
