Two Canadian economists say UBI is unavoidable.

"Assuming that [AI] will wreak havoc on opportunities for people to support themselves through full-time employment, the right to income will need to be divorced from returns to wage labour to avoid immiserating those without adequate capital."

Texas and Florida are so productive because they have no state income tax, but instead have higher property taxes. LVT is even better.

Canada needs more policymakers who understand this trade-off.

There are plenty of reasons but if we don’t give people a UBI people will die

It’s the same as food stamps,

“Thank you for approving me for food stamps but also if you didn’t I would starve and die because you have prevented me from self sufficiency by blocking the commons”
Economists generally will agree that a well-designed basic income can support workers without major disincentives.

No study on UBI has shown a meaningful drop in employment, beyond students and new parents. We want those people to focus on school and raising the next gen.
"Not only don't people work less when they are guaranteed an income, they might actually put in more effort at work. And the fact that they have more money to spend leads to the creation of more jobs."
