I enjoyed the Super Bowl halftime show but it would be nice if next year the halftime show was a plain black screen for fifteen minutes, giving football fans a quiet moment to contemplate their own mortality

Fuck, that reminds me — I gotta find people to blurb my upcoming novel, THE SHITBIRD, out this September!
Started to believe I can finish this novel. Even let myself worry about blurbs. That’s always a PROCESS. I’ve been blurbed by many favorites—Tremblay, Due, Cosby, Malerman, Wendig, Enríquez—which is awesome, but…what next?! Anyway, same? Hope this helps:

To be fair, Massachusetts has always at least *kinda* sucked, so this doesn’t surprise me.
Massachusetts is the only state run by Democrats that still partners with ICE. I dug into this and found that it’s had profound and very troubling consequences: at least 164 people funneled straight from state prisons to ICE since 2023 alone.

Unfortunately the Democratic Party establishment likes these unaccountable oligopolies nearly as much as the Republicans do. So unless and until there is a major shakeup at the top of the party, this won’t happen.
An underrated good the next Democratic administration could do with virtually zero actual political blowback from voters would be to come in with anti-trust laws like a wrecking ball and break up media and tech companies. It would fuck up The Other Side, too.
Brendan Carr is also very excited for more local broadcast TV consolidation at the hands of the right wing!

You know, to improve competition, something Carr (who has rubber stamped every desire media and telecom giants have ever had) genuinely cares about

When I worked for Reason magazine during Trump's rise to power in 2016, I was explicitly forbidden by the editor in chief from writing about Trump's racism, or the violence and racism at his rallies.

It was a "sideshow," I was told.
Weird. I tried to warn libertarians about Trump

Just because a thing is an unholy affront to human decency doesn’t necessarily mean it’s AI.

But I understand why you’d make the assumption.
Folks de-aging is CGI not AI

If you want people to leave you alone to enjoy all your nerdery, you don't get to belittle their nerdery. That's hypocrisy.

Yes, this is a skeet for anyone who uses the word "sportsball".

The fecklessness of these two specific cowards is the reason I un-registered as Democrat a year ago. Get some actual leaders, @democrats.org, and maybe I’ll come back. But not before, not one second before that.
Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries weakened their already tepid demands for ICE reforms in a press conference on Wednesday — before negotiations with Republicans even started. “Certainly I think there’s agreement that no masks should be deployed in an arbitrary and capricious fashion,” said Jeffries.
Schumer Subtly Pivots, Saying ICE Can Wear Masks in “Unusual” Circumstances
The Democratic leaders’ supposed demands for reform were already previously condemned as weak and ineffective.
