I'm excited to share my latest study, published in @commsmed.bsky.social, that highlights the substantial & ongoing impacts of #LongCOVID on working-aged Americans. Even after the emergency phase of the pandemic was declared over, long COVID continues to afflict millions of Americans. #COVID

I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

I’m a London parent who hasn’t vaccinated my kids against measles, let me explain
A new outbreak of measles is spreading across north London, and it’s a wake-up call to all mums like me who didn’t give the MMR vaccines to our children, says Charlotte Cripps

No more “biodefense” or “pandemic preparedness” at the National Institute of Allergy and INFECTIOUS DISEASES. Seems fine.

“Measles is a bad bug,” APHA CEO Georges C. Benjamin, MD, tells CNN. During a usual outbreak, “money would flow, resources would come in, there would be a big national educational campaign, and quite frankly, a large vaccination campaign across all areas of our country.”

APHA mourns the loss of Dr. William H. Foege, a titan of public health whose life and work made people around the world healthier and safer. Dr. Foege consistently applied science, innovation and moral clarity to address the most pressing public health challenges of his time.

We have completed 1/52 weeks of 2026

I published on this topic a long time ago.

I think one can make the argument that as a form of civic participation voting can have individual-level direct benefits including psychological benefits which in turn could influence health.

From Nature:

Point of no returns: researchers are crossing a threshold in the fight for funding

With so little money to go round, the costs of competing for grants can exceed what the grants are worth. When that happens, nobody wins.

EXCLUSIVE: @laurenweberhp.bsky.social & I have spent the last year collecting school+county-level vaccination data from across the US and found that only about 28% of counties now have herd immunity for kindergartners from measles—that leaves about 5.2mn kids unprotected.

I would encourage:
1) students be required to take courses on how government works and how policy is made, locally, nationally, and globally
2) that the PH curriculum embrace the reality that, while scientific evidence is foundational to policy, it is not & cannot be the only consideration
Wrote about how disappointing it is that Jon Stewart punched down on people masking at @motherjones.com, when people should mind their own business and leave mask wearers be. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

I shared this on air today on MS NOW : measles and flu are resurging, but prevention is straightforward.
Get vaccinated. Wear a mask in crowded indoor settings. Stay home when sick.
These small actions protect communities—and they add up.
The US #measles count for this year has topped 2,000 cases for the first time since 1992. These are confirmed cases only, ie there have been more. 3 reported deaths.
The vast majority of the cases are in unvaccinated kids & adults. 11% needed hospitalization. www.cdc.gov/measles/data...

Despite Black Americans comprising ~13% of the US population, eliminating their excess mortality could yield substantial gains in national LE. At a time when LE in the US ranks low vs. its peers, addressing such racial gaps could reverse recent LE trends and bring lasting public health gains.
