Do you know how bad you have to fuck up to radicalize St. Cloud?
A crowd of hundreds gathered at a St. Cloud strip mall parking lot to observe more than two dozen ICE officers near some Somali-owned businesses.

Come the fuck on. Does they want to see all of our donation transactions????? This pisses me off. I'm glad rent collections are normal but it's because all of us neighbors are chipping in on top if our own rent & mortgages!!!!!
Council Member Palmisano: "We've all been exploring how to best show up with what we can possibly afford with city dollars in this moment." But she's heard from landlord group that rent collections are tracking with normal right now.

There are some people on city council acting with purpose and urgency, and there are others on council wandering around, not understanding what the moment is, much less how to meet it.

we shouldn't help people with rent because if they apply we might choose to reject them. instead of just actively monitoring the dispensation.

do these people actually hear themselves
Council Member Vetaw argues against rental assistance money with anecdotes. Says she's heard from people who applied and weren't approved. Some of the most vulnerable people. Sounds like her argument is the money just disappears into a black hole and doesn't help people.

Bitcoin plunged on Thursday, its decline accelerating amid weakening risk sentiment driven in part by volatility in precious metals and a broad selloff in tech shares.

As much excitement as there was for a potential Giannis trade, there was a lot of nervousness, too, at the prospects of saying goodbye to some valued players.

Jaden is staying. Naz is staying. Julius is staying. Rudy is staying. Nothing ever got close with MLW. Wolves march on.

my neighbor, who is East African, and his Latino friend were just racially profiled by ICE in Columbia Heights. they were pulled over, asked for IDs, and then were told, “wrong person”.

Tell you what, Minneapolis.

You devote your attention to keeping streets clear of ICE and then folks can reevaluate.

If our public safety officials were doing anything to maintain public safety, the public would not feel the need to take safety into their own hands. Also not even going to touch the irony here about Open Streets and what a debacle the city did with that whole thing.

Hello Saint Paul people: the Minneapolis Park Board is considering opening its parkways to pedestrians and bicyclists sometimes. Like an Open Streets event, where cars aren't allowed for a bit and thus the streets become safe for humans instead of cars. Expected freak out from "moderates." lol
Open streets has existed as a popular, regular local event for more than a decade. Yet the idea of exploring open parkways events on the riverfront is the crime of the century. You can thank MPRB commissioners Cathy Abene and Charles Rucker for working people into a rage over it.
embarrassingly ugly meeting. glad the board stuck to their guns instead of being rolled by their aggressive and hostile opposition. tom constantly being put in an impossible position by flowers’ outbursts

Last I knew, Hennepin is the only district court in the state doing in-person eviction court dates. They've said it's easier to administer than Zoom hearings.

But we now have an impossible choice for BIPOC tenants: if they show up, ICE may grab them. Don't show and they're evicted by default.
This is where people would exit from appearing in 4th Judicial District Housing Court (& other courts), and my understanding is that the 4th JD (Hennepin) is still having initial eviction action appearances in-person rather than remote (unlike everywhere else in the state).

EVICTION MORATORIUM NOW.

The subtext is, if the landlord class and their advocates aren’t excited to get a direct rent payment from the city, it’s because they have eviction notices ready to go because they want a certain class of folks out, and what class can’t work to make rent right now??
This is really it! Getting emergency rental assistance approved helps landlords! Typically, the payments are made directly to them! Back rent of evicted tenants is rarely recovered! If the council moderates actually supported landlords, they'd rush to get this approved. They just hate poor people
Watching every other small immigrant owned business suffer while we bust our asses to make sure landlords get paid. 🤬

As a doctor, I am horrified by what I saw at the Whipple detention facility in Minneapolis.

No medical protocols.

No real medical care.

No nurse on site when I visited.

No beds. No real blankets. Extremely cold temperatures. Minimal food.

These conditions are inhumane and unacceptable.
