Figured I should make a thread collecting my doily posts.

These are all knit by me, mostly from designs by Herbert Niebling, a prolific designer from the early 20th century.

Check out his Wikipedia page (which I also created!) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert...

We are hostile to anyone being less than supportive because we understand where this two step you're doing into transphobia leads.

And that place you're softly stepping your way towards is full of the bodies of our dead friends, put there by folks just asking questions about our humanity.

The thing about ebooks as a substitute is that it ignores two major needs of teen readers: autonomy (the ability to get a book without going through parents) and community (the ability to pass a book around to all their friends.)
I've said this before but I truly believe we could revitalize YA and kidlit overnight by switching to MMPB and paperback first. Kids want paperbacks! It is by far the biggest request I get from teen readers.
hello this is the official petition to bring back mass market paperbacks!! mmpbs are good actually and everyone should do them!! i think esp romantasy readers would really love that shit! and you can still spray those edges!!! bring back mass market paperbacks thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take it from a former incident commander and coordinator of incident commanders: You cannot operate at incident tempo forever. A week, two weeks, a month at the outside. Then you need a month off. Package work up, hand it off. Let stuff lie that can. Rest, recover. It’ll be here when you’re back.
If you thought this paradigm was going to last 30-90 days and then end and now, at day 72, you’re realizing the fallout is actually an indefinitely permanent paradigm, it makes sense you went super hard at a pace that is unsustainable.

Recalibrate now before you’re hurtling into the concrete floor.
I’m seeing more and more Minneapolis/Minnesota people naming that they are burned out and I just hope people allow themselves to change their pacing from sprint to marathon or better yet, a relay.

Slow down if the alternative is you crashing out and not being able to do anything.

The pronoun labeler, which was by far the most useful labeler on the site, was deleted by its creator. But thanks to @ripperoni.com there’s a new one available. I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to share your pronouns or see someone else’s pronouns at a glance.

It's not that I held them to a higher standard, it's that I held them to some semblance of the standards I'm used to everyday people abiding by with each other.

It's not that they weren't what I expected elites to be. It's that they weren't what I expected HUMANS to be.

Did you know that the Works Progress Administration employed mathematicians, physicists, and engineers? One of those projects produced the common (beloved?) reference book "Handbook of Mathematical Functions" by Abramowitz (sort of) and Stegun (primarily)! 🧪 ⚛️ 👩‍🔬 🧮
Mathematician Irene Stegun was born #OTD in 1919.

A major contributor to the Works Progress Administration’s Mathematical Tables Project, she’s probably best known as co-author of the classic reference “A Handbook of Mathematical Functions” — usually referred to as “Abramowitz and Stegun.”

So I think everyone knows what Chuck E. Cheese is but for non-parents who don't know what LifeTouch is, it's the company that for decades has had a near-monopoly on school pictures.
Finding out that top execs from both LifeTouch and Chuck E. Cheese are in the Epstein files has pissed me off in a way that I didn’t think was still possible.

“…and you have found the exact measure of injustice and tyranny that will be imposed upon them.”

If those of us who believe in norms are unwilling to do what it takes to enforce them, they mean nothing.

End of story.

Super Bowl viewers Sunday speculated that 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos appeared in the halftime show. In fact, he has been in hiding with his family.

“He can’t sleep well at night. He wakes up three or four times a night screaming, ‘Daddy, Daddy,’” Liam's father Adrian Conejo Arias, said.

i got stuck explaining fascism to an 8-year-old who had seen the word on a protest sign.

explaining gay is trivial.
always so funny to me when people are like “how am I supposed to explain Gay to my kids?” my kid asks me way harder shit all the time. “why did they build the road this way? why are some people bad?” I don’t know. please ask me about Gay

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.
