50 years ago today, #OTD in Weather History, on November 10, 1975, the Great Lake ore freighter SS EDMUND FITZGERALD was lost with all hands in a severe storm on Lake Superior.

So it is time for the annual reupping of my thread on her loss.

She is perhaps the best known shipwreck on the Great Lakes, and today we remember her loss. 1/

Being a voter in Columbus is like being the only kid at a party who didn't get any cake. Like, yeah, there's ice cream and candy that are fine, but damn, that chocolate cake looked delicious and you really wanted a piece.

They specifically want to prevent voters from having a choice to fund libraries, yeesh
The Ohio House will soon vote on a Republican-backed bill that would allow counties, cities and other local governments to block library levies from the ballot. But libraries said voters deserve the right to make the decision on those money issues.

Bill would let Ohio taxing authorities keep library levies off ballots
Republicans say allowing local taxing authorities in Ohio to block library levies would increase transparency, but libraries say it will hurt them and voters.

Happy Election Day, y'all.

I feel like I say this every year but I really need people to hear it. Halloween is the best American holiday. Just kids outside welcomed into their world, marching around together, showing off their costumes to the elderly, parents meeting parents, neighbors catching up with neighbors.

Obviously, as a librarian, loving libraries is my default state but, still, every time I work remotely from one I'm always overwhelmed by how wonderful they are and how grateful I am that they exist.
