wetlands, weather, neurodiversity and autism stuff. i’m male bodied but have no internal gender.

I've always generated these super complex hypothetical topographic maps when stressed or bored in a classroom type setting. Turns out a lot of autistic people do similar things. This was part of my autistic self discovery i posted about on twitter.

Where are people posting photos and stories any more? it doesn't feel like bluesky is a place to do that, just to discuss politics. Instagram is crap now with the bad algorithm, plus bad meta. Twitter is dead to me. I have a substack but just for longer posts. Is sharing little ecology photos dead?

there are good things left in this world too. even improving things.
Sedation dentistry is no longer weird. Phone cameras are really good. The price of solar panels has dropped by tens of thousands. Southern white rhinos, giant pandas, Arabian oryx and Stellar sea lions are no longer endangered.

And, I can testify, modern cancer treatments are fucking amazing.
Please give me an unironic list of things that have gotten better over the last ten years because I’m spiraling.

I’ll start: you can buy an enormous TV from Costco for like $100 bucks now.

I’m providing diagnostic evaluations for folks 16+ in NH, MA, CT & NY who may be Autistic. My process involves a robust informed consent discussion so that people can decide what’s right for them w/o any commitment. I’m strict to DSM-V-TR because that’s my duty, & so not all my clients are diagnosed

u.s. politics or whatever it is now has gotten so bizarre that i don’t understand what’s going on at all any more. i go do work for a few hours without internet and i come back and the president has declared war on the tooth fairy or something.

i know a lot of liberals, leftists, democrats etc and have never met one who thinks that if bill clinton engaged in pedophilia he shouldn’t be fully prosecuted for it. as far as i’m concerned he can share a cell with trump.
"Democrats don't want the Epstein files released because it would compromise Bill Clinton."

Yeah, no, I don't care who's in the files. If Bill Clinton is implicated, I want him held accountable. I'm not part of a cult. I don't give a shit if they're a Democrat.

For the third year in a row, to the day, extreme weather has hit Vermont. Some locations in the Northeast Kingdom and Addison County were heavily impacted last night. We will work together to make sure everyone has what they need to recover, as Vermonters do. I’m thinking of everyone affected.

for a while the supreme court was at least mixing some good in with the bad sometimes, but is that just over now?

sorry science people but this is 100% true
Strongly agree. Celsius’s scale of 0 to 100 (freeze to boil) is good for science, but it’s useless to human everyday experience, where Fahrenheit makes so much more sense.

0 = very cold
50 = mild
100 = very hot
100 or 0 farenheit? I can appreciate these thresholds for how uncomfortable I am

This heat wave is absolutely bone crushing. I'm so glad I installed central air two years ago.

But if you're without AC, or you're dealing with a heat wave for the first time because it's reaching areas that don't historically get this hot, here are a few tips from my years of poverty in a desert:

1. Alert, and please share widely. A lawyer at the ACLU has asked me to inform my transgender readers that they should NOT be applying for passports right now - the state department has not issued guidance to comply with the court order and they are urgently trying to get them to do so.
🧵
I am getting multiple reports that the Trump admin is NOT complying with the court order requiring passport updates for transgender people.

Some passport agencies are being told not to give trans people passports with their correct gender marker, for now.
#Trans folks in the US who are reapplying for their passport to be fixed. Don't bother. Just had an emergency appointment today (I travel on the 30th) and they cannot issue me a corrected #passport. All decisions regarding this 'issue' are on hold until they receive guidance from the head office.

1. The US Transgender Survey has finally been released, and the results are stunning.

- <1% of people are less satisfied after HRT.
- The most common reason for detransition, pausing transition, or stopping transition is transphobia.

Largest Trans Survey Ever: Top Reason Trans People Stop Transitioning Is Transphobia
“In almost every single case, the reason was anti-trans discrimination in the form of pressure to ‘detransition’ from one’s family, friends, or community.”

my take on the current #inaturalist issue as a user since 2011. i’m definitely concerned about the future of the site both because of this and other changes in the last 2 or 3 years. but i think people should hold off on deleting data for now.

reminder: parents of autistic kids are often also autistic.
Saw a post on another platform that encourages people that if they see parents of Autistic kids in public that they ought to go and encourage them, tell them they're doing a great job.

"A little gesture goes a long way."

WHAT? Don't tell people that! Autistic parents don't wanna be approached. 😤

imagine your child was trapped in their own head, were in pain, and couldn’t communicate. now imagine you met someone similar to your child but who could talk. they could tell you a lot about what your child needs. now imagine you told that person they were a liar and to go f*ck themselves.

some autistic people don’t pay taxes and others were the backbone of our country’s tech edge and cultural prominence as well. even if you could remove autism it would be cultural suicide to do so. i do know one autistic person who doesn’t pay taxes and should, though. Elon Musk.
RFK Jr. wants to eradicate autistic people and also has no idea what an autistic person is

it’s a literal witch hunt - as in they are trying to find the outlier humans they don’t like and eradicate us. we’ve been here before. how many of the witches they burned do you suppose were autistic? i’m guessing a very high number.

it's me with your friendly reminder that not only was the "connection between vaccines and autism" DISPROVEN

it was launched from fraud at the cost of traumatizing young Autistic kids w/ unnecessary medical procedures

WAKEFIELD PAID HIS KIDS' FRIENDS $5 FOR BLOOD AT A BIRTHDAY PARTY!

c'mon now!
"Wakefield et al were guilty of deliberate fraud (they picked and chose data that suited their case; they falsified facts).

The British Medical Journal has published a series of articles on the exposure of the fraud, which appears to have taken place for financial gain."

this is true for me. SSRIs reduce my anxiety a little for a while but i quickly have to increase dose until the side effects are too high. and going off them is awful. most of my anxiety is linked to sensory issues or social issues like schedule changes. just autism.
