Once again tapping my sign: ICE exist in the UK 🚨 They have had arrest powers since 2000. This government - not a hypothetical future one - is working harder than ever before to raid homes and businesses.
Immigration Enforcement raids at the highest level in UK history
Record number of arrests and raids of illegal workers across the UK including 187 raids in Northern Ireland leading to 234 arrests.

Incredible victory! After years of organizing across Canada, Scotia Bank has divested from Elbit Systems!

Elbit is Israel's largest weapons company, arming the occupation and genocide of Palestine.

I've worked on a wide variety of helplines, and still do.
Under 16s use social media to access support, including crisis support. Samaritans, childline, WA etc ALL offer live chat/social media outreach. I'm convinced this will get cut off.
how is 'social media' defined?

when i was a teen i was on usenet groups, irc, message boards.

all of those were social spaces.

how is the government defining this?

The cops calling these "groups with differing views" is pure moral cowardice and a total dereliction of any duty of care they might pretend to have. This was a group of masked up, tooled up nazis turning up at a gig to attack the people attending. We have every right to community self-defence.
Nick Stone died after contact with the cops defending the far right group Bristol Patriots. This is the same group that attacked the Red Lion in BS5 yesterday. The cops threatened anyone who tried to leave the pub with arrest for "breach of the peace" and let the fascists stay there for an hour.

I’m step-dad to an almost 13-year-old and, trust me, social media and WhatsApp group chats are a NIGHTMARE, but banning them isn’t the answer! It’s our job to help them navigate how to use them and it’s hard work, but also lately we’re seeing it pay off in how they navigate relationships offline too

If we’re doing metric/imperial can we get rid of miles from British roads, mainly because doing 100 on a French motorway feels way more bad ass.

This makes me think of how the arts in Britain keeps shying away from this, when we have so many tools, skills and resources we could use to energise people.
In order to do anything about that we need robust public political engagement outside of party structures (inside is fine I guess, but less relevant). From civil society organisations to non violent civil disobedience to direct action to whatever. The whole lot.

if this has to be a news story it should be that a qualified and competent doctor has been run out of a struggling NHS simply because she is transgender
The BBC reporting on Beth Upton’s current employment situation is definitely not in the public interest, and it is insane how much the British press freely get away with harassing her for the crime of simply living her life existing as a trans person in the UK.
