This is one of my biggest sticking points against requiring IDs for things. Sure, I get the argument. But part of that should also be the infrastructure to make it as easy as possible to get those IDs. That Republicans aren't in favor of that is a huge tell that they're just gaming the system.
This scheme to make passports harder to obtain comes as Republicans are trying to make passports one of the few documents that can be presented in order to be permitted to register to vote.
