Even giving Italy a home ice buffer, the U.S. should be dropping 3:35-3:36 times at sea level, no problem.

3:39-3:44 (did ease up with China out of it)-3:43.

In swimming parlance, it appears they missed their taper badly.

Another Ryan Shimabukuro Olympic masterclass. #MilanCortina2026
The U.S. was really kind of poor to their standard in all three skates. Especially given how much prep they put into this.

Unbeatable team all year schooled by Italy twice, while beating a sandbagging China in-between. Woof.

Italy beat the U.S. in the men’s team pursuit gold medal race and then hit em with the Steph Curry night night in front old their home fans. Welp!

I love the speedskating team pursuit event, but the semifinals keep ending with teams easing up to save energy for the gold/bronze races 2 hours later. If they build in more time for rest, would you get more races with teams going all out?

🚨🥇 My Day 11 Olympics viewing guide!

💥 7 medal events
💥 Women’s figure skating short program
💥 Men’s hockey playoffs start
💥 Team pursuit speedskating!

I remember seeing Gladiator twice in theaters during its initial run, but it did not occur to me that 25 years later multiple teams would still be using the soundtrack for their Olympic figure skating routines.

Elana Meyers Taylor.
Wins medals in 4 Olympics (bronze in 2010, silver in 2014/18/22)
In 2020 & 2022, she has kids. Both have special needs. She lives on the road with them, flying around the world for months at a time to compete in bobsled.
And THEN! At 41! She wins her first gold.
American hero.

41-year-old Elana Meyers Taylor wins her sixth Olympic medal and finally her first gold. Medaled in her fifth straight Olympics.

Bronze for fellow U.S. bobsledder Kaillie Humphries, who won gold in 2022.

All four heats of monobob were a ton of fun.

MONOBOB!
February 16, 2026 at 8:59 PM
Run 3 just started and the first three sleds all had track records right in a row‼️

Nolte, then Meyers Taylor, then Humphries tied Meyers Taylor (59.08)

Then Love leapfrogged Hasler, putting American 2-3-4.

Great stuff. Fourth and final heat is at 3:06 ET.
U.S. women are in 2nd, 3rd and 5th after today’s two heats of monobob.

Final heats are Monday at 1 p.m. and 3:06 p.m.
February 16, 2026 at 6:12 PM
USA women’s hockey beats Sweden 5-0 in the semifinal.

Gold medal game will be Thursday at 1:10 p.m. ET.

USA will play the winner of Canada-Switzerland in the other semi today at 3:10.

Wild finish in the men’s slalom. 44 out of 96 skiers failed to finish the first run. Norway’s Atle Lie McGrath was in first place by 0.59. Just crashed out of his second run with a great opportunity at gold.

He was crushed. Chucked a pole and laid down in the snow. Brutal.

Hard to describe the level of satisfaction I anticipate from retweeting* myself 14 years from now, while we’re watching them carry canoes in some city that hasn’t even bid on the Olympics yet.

*or whatever we call it here
While we’re enjoying some new events, I wanna be very early to tell you that the ICF canoe world championships has events where they have to carry the canoe in the middle of the race.

I wouldn’t be stunned if this becomes an Olympic event by 2036 or 2040: www.youtube.com/shorts/pgEvJ...

This was nuts. They tied twice in one day(!) and almost won gold, but both win silver instead.
Hector and Stjernesund tied down to the hundredth of a second in their first AND second heats. INSANE! Currently tied for the lead with 3 skiers to go.

They’re currently sharing the gold medal chair!

Might be today’s most fun event

Skeleton mixed team is fun as hell

Both women's and men's sliders have a timing light much like in F1, where it goes RED-RED-RED-RED then it's lights out and away we go!

Here's Austin Florian showing you how it's done after Mystique Ro's half of this World Champs winning pair of runs.

I believe skeleton is the sport with the longest period of time where the winners find out they’ve won and then still have to slow down and stop
