Baseball stats, trivia, and other useless info, mostly about the Phillies.

With win #666 😬, the #Eagles' combined record is over .500 for the first time in their 92 year history:
NL/AL Rookies of the Year will be announced today.

#Phillies: the only team with only 1 rookie batter (Otto Kemp)

✅ Max Lazar/Mick Abel led a slightly larger pitcher presence

✅ If (for simplicity) a full season for a pitcher is 200 IP, no team played rookies less

15 Sundays from today (2/22):

✅ The #Phillies host the Pirates for their first game in Clearwater.

✅ Most likely the first time we'll see the 2026 Phillies on TV.

Good question, yes — Harper is the #Phillies all-time leader in postseason WPA:

1) Harper +1.97
2) Utley +1.21
3) Luzinski +1.15
4) Werth +0.95
5) Dykstra +0.92

then Howard, Unser, Realmuto, Kruk, etc.

Bryce Harper in the postseason as a Phil:

✅ OPS by year ('22-25):

1.160, 1.097, 1.279, .600

✅ WPA by year (per 650 PA):

+9.3, +10.4, +8.0, -0.5

The numbers for '22, '23, and '24 would be MVP-level over a full season.

In 2025 Bryce Harper saw the fewest pitches in the strike zone: 42.9%*

Second lowest was 45.8%

From 4/11 to 5/27, Harper had Schwarber hitting behind him.

He STILL only saw 43.9% in the zone, which would still have been lowest in MLB.

Remember when you hear the comparisons of Shohei Ohtani to Babe Ruth that the Babe never once struck out more than 3 batters in a season that he hit 30+ homers. It's true.

No one's ever done anything like this before.

Bryce Harper is 33 today. Schwarber will turn 33 in March.

In MLB history, most postseason HRs by a player's 33rd bday:

T-1) SCHWARBER, Altuve 23

T-10) HARPER, Jeter, Thome 17

A lot more postseason now, esp. compared to Mantle's day.

Since 2015, 87 players have batted 100+ times in the postseason.

Of those 87, Kyle Schwarber has the 9th highest OPS (.907).

Bryce Harper has the highest (1.016):

this is so, so good. it's also, in its way, a paean to the regular season and why it matters in and of itself, even if MLB is doing its best to pretend it only exists as a prelude to the playoffs.

Game 4 was a devastating, crushing loss.

Now, if I were told in March that the #Phillies would make the postseason but without Wheeler and Alvarado, Nola would be limited to 2 innings, and they would lose a closely fought series to LA, that would be disappointing but tolerable.
