"The Phillies should do X" is so dependent on what are teams doing this offseason. Really with the exception of the Padres SP and Japanese FAs the top FAs are from competitive teams who should in theory want to retain or acquire a replacement for those FAs. But are they actually all trying?

Allowing your GM/President to make a terrible move that everyone knows is terrible and then firing them for that move is just one of the most beautiful things in sports.

It is hard to really explain how bad the last two international signing classes have been. The 2024 group is a disaster and 2025 includes a neat overage RHP, an interesting SP in the Bader deal, and a couple “could be interesting in 3 years” hitters
I did many hours of work on their complex league teams only to find almost nothing worth writing about. I don’t think guys like John Spikerman or Griff McGarry would warrant a mention in any other team’s report and they both would’ve made an ordinal top 20 here.

Top-heavy is a common descriptor for farm systems, but it's truer here than in most places.

My wife has pointed out that our house has apparently been suffering from the male loneliness epidemic since we moved (the shrimp in the fish tank experienced a population collapse because only dudes have been born)

I will never not think this is the former Phillies prospect
Noah Juulsen gets boarded, takes about five seconds to make sure he's okay (or maybe to ensure a penalty gets called), and then gets up furious and goes after Dylan Cozens, who hit him. We'll see how the penalties shake out, but there's juice back in the building to be sure.

The Phillies signed Ranger Suarez on April 1, 2012.
Five days later the Phillies ran this lineup for a 1-0 Opening Day win over the Pirates and Erik Bedard
CF Victorino
3B Polano
SS Rollins
RF Pence
1B Wigginton
LF Mayberry
C Ruiz
2B Galvis
SP Halladay
Roy threw 8 innings of 2-hit ball

It’s difficult to wrap my head around just how long Suarez has been in the org

With Ranger Suarez now a FA, the current longest tenured under contract player on the Phillies is either Aaron Nola (June 10, 2014) or Rafael Marchan (July 3, 2015) depending on how you want to handle Nola actually becoming a free agent. After those two it jumps all the way to Johan Rojas (1/18/18)

Catcher Caleb Ricketts feels like he has come up a couple times in Phillies Rule 5 conversation and I just don't get it. My two stats:
The last two years he has 15 total home runs, he hit 13 at home for Reading and 2 at home with the Threshers on rehab. 0 road HRs.

Phillies 2025 Minor League Free Agents
Today was minor league roster cleanup day. All players needed to be activated from the injured lists and all players who had achieved at least 7 minor league seasons became free agents. The Phillies had the opportunity to add any of these players to their 40 man roster to prevent this, but did not opt to keep anyone in this way.

Pulido pitched yesterday sitting 93-95, but the thing of note is that he added a splitter. It looks to be similar to Jaydenn Estanista in that it has very low spin (700-800 RPM), and the two he threw were 83 and 84 mph with 20" vertical separation from his fastball.
Phillies RHP Danyony Pulido has been added to the AFL Surprise roster. Pulido was also announced on Tuesday as joining the Adelaide Giants for the ABL season that starts in a week.

Baseball America has their Phillies list out (www.baseballamerica.com/teams/2025-p...) kicking off ranking season. It is good to see we all just have Aidan Miller #1 now. Overall, I don't have the same order, but I have the same guys in that grouping (which extends into the early teens)

Saurez and Schwarber will both reject the QO. If they sign with another team the Phillies will receive a pick after the 4th round. That is regardless of the size of the contract or the penalty for the signing team. If they are re-signed there is no penalty or compensation for the Phillies.

It feels in normal years there are multiple of those QOs that get accepted, but with MLB posturing like they want to kill the sport in a year, a 1 year deal is probably not appealing.

Lantigua will be a FA in a couple of days. Phillies 40 man roster now is at 30 heading into the offseason after these moves and Bader becoming a FA and the Phillies picking up Alvarado's option
The Phillies announced the following roster moves:
INF Rafael Lantigua was outrighted to Triple-A and is now a free agent. The Phillies 40-man roster is now at 30 players.
Additionally, RHPs Zack Wheeler & Daniel Robert were reinstated from the 60-day injured list.

This isn't entirely related to this hire, but I am not really sure what the Padres are doing and where they really go from here overall. I don't want to say any team should blow it up and rebuild, but also they should think about it.

This is actually a good question, the answer is no…but the Phillies have a deal with Adelaide where the Phillies send essentially their foreign player allotment and there is an overlap in coaches and other personnel including the Adelaide manager Chris Adamson who has been a coach/manager for Phils
Are the ABL teams affiliated with MLB teams or no?

Today's Phillies prospect ranking musing is that I feel bad for Matthew Ferrara and Logan Dawson because I will always be comparing them to each other. I completely blame the Phillies for it too.

Getting back into the offseason with some Reading video from late in the year because I need some fresh looks on some pitchers and hitters. It is like connecting with old friends. Aidan Miller's at bats are just so much better and just watching Jean Cabrera through same side changeups is just fun.
