Normies are the bulwark of democracy
It's incredibly demoralizing to constantly see the highest institutions of government and academia and the most important and widely seen news outlets knuckle under one after another, but then to see the gulf between that and the bravery of communities and neighbors and teachers - that's something

this is by far the most common one I encounter 😵‍💫
The Ignoramus:

You’re not sick, are you?

Is worried about illness, but weirdly thinks that it only comes from the people wearing masks.

“When I speak about making our city more affordable, my vision is not limited to the homes that we live in or the child care that we’re making universal — it’s also a vision where we make it possible for working people to afford lives of joy, of art, of rest, of expression.”

I just sent $33—who can join me?
another urgent mutual aid request for Minneapolis:

a friend with two undocumented parents, one with cancer (who just lost his insurance due to MNcare dropping undocumented folks), is struggling to help his family as the only one who can work.

let’s raise $2,000 for him today.

Like many other women, I have been called a fucking bitch.

We know what it means, and how often it comes with violence.

My heart is incandescent.

The next 36 hours of astrology:

violence, overdoses, mental health episodes, accidents, possible blackouts, gaslighting, lies, arguments, misunderstandings, and infectious disease spreading (covid and flu.)

This could last through January 18 in one form or another. A likely peak is now.

Best TikTok thing going is the two dudes trying food from every country without leaving NYC. If you haven’t seen them yet, it’s incredible. My favorite so far is last week’s. Legit got me emotional.

Anti-ICE march in lower Manhattan is moving north, destination unknown.

Looks to be about a thousand people.

This march does not have a permit, and used amplified sound at the rally with no issues. A notable shift from the Adams admin that directed NYPD to nitpick.

Clear-eyed, fact-based, and written to explain to normies. No “both sidesing.” No “Trump officials disagree.”
No gaslighting that what we can see with our own eyes might not be true.

This is journalism. Well done, @people.com

protester: "You're a fucking coward!"

masked heavily armed agent of the state: "I'm not!"
Tense scene earlier this afternoon as protesters follow Border Control Commander Greg Bovino and his caravan around in Minneapolis. At one point, Commander Bovino tussled with a protester, both slipping in the snow.

ORGANIZE! ❤️‍🔥
Americans, living in a country saturated in violence since its inception, “Why do violent things keep happening?!?”

I’m not being snarky, I just truly don’t know how we fix it. I guess the ol’ “be nice to people around you and hope it spreads.” ?
