pretty wild that NOW republicans are calling for de-escalation of political tensions, thats been the trump era rights entire thing! the way they call for violence and eradication of trans people, palestinians, is gross. they’ve been the most complicit

The narrative is that shooting at Trump and Kirk is political violence while January 6 and Gaza don't exist and ICE abuses are the normal course of business
I'll merely note that today, like all days, is a great day to stop posting on Twitter, a platform whose owner force feeds this slop into people's brains with an algorithm designed to boost his views and trample yours.

An important detail of today's shooting is that Utah is one of only two states in the country that allow campus carry. I hope that this decision is revisited.

When your country suffers from paroxysms of political violence, immediately calling for retribution against your political enemies, when you don't know who the killer was or why they killed, is only going to make things worse. This type of violence rhetoric only unleashes further cycles of carnage.
Very, very bad stuff coming from leading right-wingers

Not a single elected dem is even going to come remotely close to what Lee and a whole bunch of elected GOP officials did. They’re all going to express sympathy and condemn political violence and we’re of course going to get a billion different “both sides” articles in the coming weeks
Oh, is Mike Lee moralizing about his hatred of political violence now?

Time for some common sense gun laws. Democrats should introduce a bill named the Charlie Kirk common sense gun reform bill and make every Republican vote for it.

We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

Charlie Kirk called me a ‘lunatic’ and a ‘prostitute’ and demanded I be deported.

Nothing, *nothing*, justifies killing him, or robbing his kids of their dad.

We don’t know the identity or motive of the shooter but murder can *never* be the response to political disagreements.

You can condemn murder and political violence without whitewashing Charlie Kirk's shameful history of hate, racism, white nationalism and promotion of dangerous conspiracies that radicalized Trump supporters to violence.

You can do both.

In 2014, Anita Sarkeesian canceled an event at Utah State after a credible assassination threat because the school’s response was that Utah allows guns on college campuses.

People have warned about this kind of violence for years. But they weren’t the people the powers at be wanted to protect.

No elected official Democratic party will be as cruel about Kirk's death as Mike Lee was about the death of Melissa Hortman.

Before knowing all the facts, voices on the right are now exploiting the tragic death of Charlie Kirk & calling for all-out war on the left. This is sad, but not surprising, at a time when we should all be denouncing political violence. They were not so upset when Minn. Democrats were assassinated.

My main observation from the last few hours of monitoring US social media is that Democrats are universally denouncing political violence and calling for calm while MAGA are escalating language and openly lusting for retribution against broad categories of people they identity as their enemies.

Charlie Kirk is shot dead and magically the media and politicians are no longer talking about Epstein. Coincidence I think not. #JustSaying

Melissa was doing such important work for the state of Minnesota & this country-we grieve her loss & demand strict gun reform legislation.
