I would love this. Current bike greenways require some serious hill climbing to ride safely (ie. avoid the flattest route, Rainier Ave)
It’s still a big lift, but today it feels possible.
Speed up the 7.
Make the sidewalks accessible.
Keep people safe no matter how they get around.
The solution to fix Seattle's most dangerous street (Rainier Ave S) is available, if the political will can be found.

So happy that Katie Wilson will head this. What a great candidate for the job
It hasn't received much attention, but the next mayor will shape almost all the 8 year $1.55 billion transportation levy projects. Some have already started, but most haven't, and while the mayoral term goes to 2029 and the levy 2032, SDOT does ~3 year project cycles, so they will all be underway
And in the end Seattleites passed the Keep Seattle Moving levy overwhelmingly.
It got more votes than any Seattle politician ever, and won in almost every precinct.
Advocates were right, we should have gone bigger to build more. But big businesses got their wish for more modest tax increases.

Wow. While we wait for the few remaining ballots to be counted, we feel like we have won this race. The recent drop put us nearly 1,400 votes ahead, just under the .5 percent threshold for a mandatory recount.

Wilson's win means an end to heavy-handed corporate patronage in the mayor's office going back to 2013, a lineage running from the serial child predator who resigned in disgrace to the mayor who inherited all his donors & teargassed the city, to the guy who supported both of them to the bitter end

This so much!

Parents (usually mothers) in car-centric areas are forced to chauffeur their kids around. It also means they emphasize predictable, scheduled activities (like sports leagues) that cost money.

Youth mobility gives kids freedom, saves money, and reduces the unpaid-labor burden on women
Just preaching my message of "wanting to do less more often" we all have our reasons.

Yeah this is what I was thinking with the argument of her inexperience.

She's been working to make change in this city for years
"Katie Wilson, if nothing else, has had an audacious rise from a little-known progressive activist..."

"Little-known" only if you're not paying close attention to City Hall. Wilson has been at or near the center of almost every major policy battle in the city for the last 10 years.
It's starting to look like a socialist is going to Seattle City Hall
Plus Airbnb goes back to the mattresses, some recommended reading, and it's time to sign up for our Re-Wire Policy Conference

I've compared Trump to Televangelists.

No, that's not a compliment: it's an indictment of his (lack of) character.

God even his own fucking lies are have no internal logic. If he believed his own bullshit about "Tariffs have earned us 17 trillion in just 10 short months!" then paying back 3 trillion would not be an issue.

Seattle's close mayoral race has switched leading candidates but the margins remain incredibly close.

It is possible we're headed to an automatic recount: WA state law requires a machine recount for any election within 0.5% & 2000 votes, and a hand recount for races within 0.25% & 150 votes.
Incredible. Progressive challenger Katie Wilson now has a 91-vote lead in Seattle’s race for mayor. She had been steadily gaining on incumbent Bruce Harrell.

There are about 8,000 ballots left to count.

Boy I needed this good news. I've been anxious since yesterday's update was posted. I thought it was over
I can’t tell you what day we’re going to win the election. But I can tell you that if we win 54% of the remaining votes over the course of the week…
With Half the Ballots Still Uncounted, This Mayoral Election is an Open Contest
Katie Wilson needs to get about 54 percent of the outstanding ballots to close the gap with incumbent Bruce Harrell.

it's telling the harrell campaign doesn't have any vision or positive message to run on.

it's just deflection. misogyny. tearing down his opponents. gaslighting the public. tomorrow when he loses will be so effing great.

Love when the fall leaves show how little of the road cars actually use to drive on. IMO that's all the city should have to pay to maintain and narrowing it to that distance would help slow cars down to appropriate speeds for entering this neighborhood.

What a beautiful sight. Speed limit in Seattle is 25mph but most roads designed for 50mph. Looks like a good solution.
If your street is too wide, too fast, lacks trees, and lacks seating then…I have a curb-bulb-speed-bump-tree-pit-park-bench idea for you.
