We simply had to intentionally destroy the world’s strongest economy while dismantling our scientific and educational infrastructure to ensure that a team with a trans girl would never finish second place in the Mountain West volleyball standings again

A completely serious question.

When people, and businesses, and institutions with the resources and reputation to stand firm…don’t, where does that leave this country.

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

The grimmest realization is not the very old one that Trump is a hyper-sensitive narcissist who thinks criticizing him should be illegal.

The grimmest realization is that a substantial number of Americans are born serfs, best suited for a monarchy, who thinks that’s manly and admirable and right.
Trump at the DOJ: "I believe that CNN and MSNDC, who literally write 97.6% bad about me, are political arms of the Democrat Party. And in my opinion, they are really corrupt and they are illegal. What they do is illegal."

Oh did the NCAA think fucking over their 10 transgender athletes, by acquiescing to transphobe demands, would appease them?
Texas is suing the largest college sports governing body in the country in the hopes that a court will order the org to “immediately begin screening the sex of student athletes.”

The NCAA has given no indication that it would do this. But this policy would cause big privacy concerns for students
Texas wants the NCAA to start ‘sex-screening’ its student athletes
A lawsuit filed by the state comes as more women athletes are being scrutinized for their height, athletic ability and physical characteristics as evidence that they are transgender.

Counting down the days until the white house conditions access on how trans people are referred to or how democrats are referred to.

This fight isn't really about the name of a coastal sea.
Trump is blacklisting a news outlet for using a name he doesn't like.

It's that simple.

So why aren't more reporters and media outlets speaking out more vehemently to help The AP? In part, I'm told, it's because the WH Correspondents' Association is trying to work out a solution behind the scenes.

Here’s the pitch:

They hire back the accidentally-fired bird flu folks *and* the accidentally-fired nuclear security guys BUT they put them in each other’s jobs — also by accident!

It’s TRADING PLACES meets FAILSAFE meets CONTAGION — and maybe also FREAKY FRIDAY!

Need a title.
USDA says it accidentally fired officials working on bird flu and is trying to rehire them

In a statement, an Agriculture Department spokesperson told NBC News that officials are "working to swiftly rectify the situation."

Interestingly, in Loper Bright vs Raimondo, the conservative majority on SCOTUS ruled just last year that the judiciary can in fact overrule regulatory decisions made by the executive branch especially when those decisions are not specified by Congress.

A reminder that Los Angeles had its hottest summer in history last year. Southern California has received just 2% of "normal" rainfall during the current "rainy" season.

These fires are a direct result of a warming & drying atmosphere caused by burning fossil fuels.

We are in a climate emergency.

I spent multiple years as a counterterrorism analyst looking at threats from the Islamic State. Brandon has this absolutely correct. This isn’t a classic CT event, it’s something else. It’s about mental illness, military PTSD and other things people keep sweeping under the rug in the wake of GWOT
Rather than "Muslim terror" being the thread that tied the men in New Orleans and Las Vegas together (as many speculated), we're likely going to learn what they actually had in common:

- they were men
- they had easy access to guns
- broken relationships
- despair and isolation
- online brain worms
