Who do we need to sacrifice to get rid of Prop 13???
prop 13 turned California's state budget watch into an ancient civilization divination exercise. emperor gavin wrote into the oracle bones, and his delphic policy analysts divined the stock market gods are happy. no need for human sacrifices in the Sierras this year
For better — or worse — California's "Fiscal Outlook" is currently indexed to $NVDA

CRIME ROBOT: a con artist gets a personal robot instead of prison time. He figures out a loophole in increasingly convoluted scenarios, where the bot only stops him from doing crimes--not for him. Soon they’re robbing banks, stealing art, and rewriting the laws of AI.

Coming to theaters in 2026.

A wealthy safe streets advocate could do the most good by paying a team of maybe a half dozen journalists to aggressively and comprehensively report every single traffic death in every major city. Depicting the horrifying human cost, FOIing PDs and DOTS, contextualizing it in policy choices, etc.

That’s $5 billion more than the entire annual USAID budget. All to one country. To rescue one friend of the president’s.
Trump found another $20 BILLION to give to Argentina, totaling their bailout to $40 BILLION.

Yet we can’t afford to prevent millions of Americans from losing their healthcare.

Shame.

the president using the office to punish americans that didnt vote for him should really be one of the biggest scandals in americas history
Trump is upfront in saying he will use the shutdown to punish Democrats, and here are the receipts. About $27.2 billion cut from Dem districts compared to about $0.7 billion in GOP districts.
We all complain about the media, but need this type of in-depth journalism.

Training the military to “quell civil disturbances” is another step toward authoritarianism.

Linking it to “the enemy from within” is absolutely terrifying since that was the phrase Hitler used for Jews & others considered undesirable.

He doesn’t even hide what he’s doing.
Trump to generals: "Last month, I signed an executive order to provide training for a quick reaction force that can help quell civil disturbances. This is gonna be a big thing for the people in this room, because it's the enemy from within & we have to handle it before it gets out of control"

When you have an administration that so constantly, shamelessly, openly lies, pretty soon there’s no faith in any information streams coming from the administration, so there’s no way to convey true information in a way that lands right, which leads to more chaos.

If Democrats ever get power again there needs to be a proper reckoning. Criminals need to be indicted, prosecuted and convicted for trying to subvert our democracy and rights for Trump.

There is no room for Merrick Garlands and milquetoast centrists anymore.

You need accountability.

Democracy, more than anything is a practice. I always think that the Civil Rights Movement succeeded because from the Civil War black Americans built institutions: universities, fraternities and sororities, churches, that engaged them in democratic practice.
generally speaking, and with the glaring exception of november 2024, the more directly democratic an institution has been, the better it has checked Trump (eg grand and petit juries); the more elite and insular, the less effective (the Senate, the Supreme Court, big business)
