Still around 100 community reports of ICE activity around the Twin Cities today, the most of any state by far.

In case you’re wondering why so many of us aren’t quite taking Homan’s presser today at face value.

BREAKING

Judge Boasberg ORDERS the Trump admin to facilitate the return of the more than 100 men spirited out of the country last year without notice or a hearing.

Plaintiffs may also submit habeas petitions from abroad, he says.

Incredible, on-the-ground reporting from @gabydvj.bsky.social. It's easy to embrace the triumphalist "Minnesotans fought back" narrative, but the reality is that the Trump administration has done long-term damage
ICE may have lost the battle for public opinion, and its operation may be hampered by local pushback, but it has succeeded in one respect: It has instilled terror in Minnesota’s immigrant communities, forcing them into the shadows.

Court battle over surveillance footage at the Broadview ICE detention center reaches new levels of kafkaesque absurdity: The DOJ claimed it *couldn't afford* hard drives to put video footage on. Plaintiffs bought THE US GOVERNMENT hard drives. ICE "lost" them.

In short, yes I know.

My takes are second guessing normal behavior.

The FAA was responsible and followed the script of what you need to do when you have undeclared/careless laser use. Consider it was a surprise to them too.

DOD acted normal with “on range” behavior. That goes badly anywhere else.

new reporting from CNN indicates as many as 4 party balloons were shot down by this laser system in the El Paso area in the days leading up to this emergency TFR issuance

"Earlier this week, the anti-drone technology was launched near the southern border to shoot down what appeared to be foreign drones. The flying material turned out to be a party balloon, sources said. One balloon was shot down"

absolutely incredible stuff
Airspace closure followed spat over drone-related tests and party balloon shoot-down, sources say
Pentagon officials had undertaken planning to use military technology near Fort Bliss, in El Paso, to practice downing drones.

i both believe that there are some types of things that LLMs do that are useful and that it's patently absurd to say there's a 10% chance LLMs take away all white collar jobs and that we should act accordingly
I'm not even saying that's the most *likely* possibility, but it's just very clear that the likelihood of that outcome as increased and even if there's, like, a 1 in 10 change that "AI replaces most to all white collar jobs in 10 years" that's an *enormous* risk to the social order!

cool that DoD and FAA are beefing by proxy through anonymous statements in news reports, I am sure that's great for aviation safety

MS NOW: "A congressional official with knowledge of the matter is telling MS NOW the cause of the shutdown of El Paso airspace is a lack of communication between the Pentagon and FAA. The official told us the FAA and DOD are 'not in clear communications with each other.'"

forgot to mention, the TFR that came into effect 15 minutes ago is slated to last 10 days... can't really think of a similar situation in the NAS, very unusual
the last minute TFR situation (and resulting elephant-walk-esque rush of departures) in El Paso is interesting!

from ATC audio, they received last minute notice of a TFR shutting down airspace within a 10NM radius of the ELP up to 18k ft... ATC themselves describing it as a total shutdown
