Interesting how a response is framed by different news agencies... here the Bishop is stronger and actually reference it being condemned
“A central tenet of the Christian faith is to love your neighbour as yourself."

The Bishop of Limerick has condemned yesterday's arson attack on a mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre, calling it a "wake-up call" for the community. jrnl.ie/6956374

Heraskevych’s choice to forfeit the medal chance instead of give up the memorial helmet is the biggest story in Ukraine today. Everyone is heartbroken but there is a unanimous consensus that this was what had to happen rather than to give up.

I’m fascinated yet again that opinion on @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social as to “numbers on benefits” are out of control. Ireland had the same Covid but we didn’t attack our own people. The same for numbers in jail in GB vs the rest of us. It’s a toxic culture of attack on people.

My God, it’s almost always a balloon, innit.

Someone should write a song about that or something. With extra balloons.
Shot, and one-hell-of-a-chaser.

I’m going to do the Fianna Fáil lads a solid here for once (you’re welcome) with a simple piece of advice regarding Micheal Martin’s continued position as party leader and Taoiseach:

Dump him. Quickly. He’s repeatedly coming across as an absolute nutter. Everyone can see it.
The exchange between the Taoiseach and the Sinn Féin leader prompted Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy to appeal for a "respectful" debate, given that the visitors' gallery was full.

I mean… even Hitler’s Brownshirts started wearing numbers to indicate their rank and unit.

In 1928.

Accountability aside, perhaps the American Sturmabteilung are being reassured that there’s no Night of the Long Knives coming as long as they keep murdering people.

Not even a hint of “sixth time’s the charm”?🤣

This has been the only thing I’ve been wondering about the Dublin Central by-election: if memory serves, there have been only two elections (the 2009 by-election and 1997 election) since 1987 that didn’t have Mary or her dad running in Dublin Central.
FF’s Mary Fitzpatrick has ruled herself out of the Dublin Central by-election. The senator, who has run in that constituency for the last five general elections, has written to FF members saying she wants to see out her term in the Seanad. Cabra-Glasnevin councillor John Stephens now likely to run.

the ultimate expression of motornormativity is the degree of appeasement involved in building any infrastructure which might result in even the smallest change to current mobility patterns

(setting aside the fact that modal shift has been a target of national transport policy for the last 20 years)
The Taoiseach has called for greater engagement on cycle projects.

He then presents costs of active travel projects using people-focused and emotive terms: 'communities with older populations', 'uproar, 'against people's wishes', 'health and safety'

Even ignoring John Stephens ignoring transport data in favour of what he thinks he sees (wtf, man, that’s idiotic), here’s the efficiency thing:

- if there IS congestion, you keep the bus lanes

- if there ISN’T congestion, the cars don’t need the slow formation space, so you keep the bus lanes.

Who would have guessed that powerful people see mindless scrolling, celebrity infatuation, reality TV, and even sports are a distraction for the masses much like Roman gladiators and similar entertainment were?

We go crazy with a lot of it, but we'd also go crazy without it.
This is bleak: Jes Staley, currently CEO of Barclays, reassuring Epstein that popular revolt against financial elites is unlikely because capitalism and pop culture have defanged social movements, leaving people more invested in consumption than justice.
