At long last, Netflix's Death by Lightning series has arrived—a dramatization of the assassination of President James Garfield by the unwell Charles Guiteau, who was represented at trial by . . . an attorney named George Scoville.

(No relation of which I'm aware.)

Not sure why X wouldn't have suspended my account for many past posts mocking the buffoonery of Trump's tariffs, but I woke up this morning to my account being suspended for unspecified "inauthentic behaviors," whatever that means. I have no confidence in the appeal process. Guess I'm here to stay!

Reports that Stephen Miller, Marco Rubio, Kristi Noem, Pete Hegseth, Daniel P. Driscoll & other snr officials have moved themselves & their families to new homes on military bases.

Across media, general criticism focuses on them taking housing that should be available for military staff.

Nine months ago I put most of my hope in major institutions continuing to hold fascism in check, but had little expectation that regular people with little to no power would step up and put themselves at risk.

I had it exactly backward.
signs like these are up all over Chicago cafes and storefronts (here, cafes in Brighton Park and Back of the Yards) warning ICE not to enter without a judicial warrant

Refusing to "officially consider" a cert petition isn't an option that exists, they have to dispose of all of them by either granting or rejecting them.

This is a grossly misleading description of what's actually happening. They're deciding the cert petition. That happens in every single case anybody asks them to take. There are thousands of cert petitions they "officially consider," it is completely mundane and the vast majority are rejected.
Breaking: The Supreme Court is now officially considering taking up a case overturning same-sex marriage.

This is the first time in history the court has considered rolling back this right.

"[x], to own the libs" has done more damage to the cause of liberty through limited government since 2008 than anything else I can think of
Saw this at the Denver #NoKings. A running theme of a lot of signs and shirts was basically "Be good and decent to each other." Because what we're up against are people who reject the very idea of goodness and decency.

Since I'm about to head out to DC's No Kings protest, here's a quick look at America's ORIGINAL No Kings movement, and a review of how many of George III's crimes outlined in the Declaration have been repeated by Trump. juliansanchez.substack.com/p/trump-vs-g...

Protest peacefully.

No, you won’t win the propaganda war that way. They’ll run videos of the Rodney King beating or something and say it’s antifa.

Protest peacefully because it’s better for your community and your peace of mind, and we’re all going to need both of those things a whole lot now.

Two words: Daft Punk.
Pretty confused by how TRON became a big-budget movie franchise. Was it a bit hit when it came out? No. Did it become a big hit on video/TV? Also no. Do people have fond nostalgic memories of it? Eh kinda but not really. Was it secretly great and critically acclaimed? No again

Very obvious reasons why everything is seen through the lens of electoral strategy these days. The stakes are high, politics is broken, and people have strong opinions about how to fix things. But it sure is exhausting.

Today in things I wish were different (ala Klein): it would be nice to be able to talk about optimal policy without immediately having every response be about whether it is optimal politics. This isn't a subtweet of anyone unless you count "America of the last 15 years" to be someone.

My childhood friend and fellow Memphis Law grad/Tennessee attorney @popelizbet.bsky.social has a poetry book coming in July —>
"without memory there can be no retribution”

Is My Chainsaw A Heart: 13 Centos by Elizabeth R. McClellan is a praise work to horror; a blood and guts gift to fandom, a new needed creation in the blistering and gripping world of Stephen Graham Jones. Long live final girls.
