ICYMI, I’m writing a quarterly column on collections of weird fiction. So far we’ve got an intro, one on Steve Rasnic Tem, Ananda Lima, and Christi Nogle, and another on John Langan, Rebecca Campbell, and B. Catling. There’s a lot of weird theorizing and words like “apophatic” and “genric”.

Hi. It's me. I'm here to gently ask if you've been giving yourself grace? Patience? Self-care?

You've got this. You are enough, and you deserve all the good things.

A man?? winning the Booker prize????? Is that even possible? It hasn't happened since the far-flung days of 2023. Our legends say that a man also won it in the ancient, prehistoric era of 2021, but surely that is just an old wives tale meant to frighten MFA students before bed.

I wear a mask simply because I'm following the data on repeat infections and trying to limit those. I've also known too many people with long or medium covid to want to fuck around. Even if I knew I was going to recover fully why would i volunteer to lose months to this illness?

those of us laid off from Teen Vogue were really fortunate to complete our fundraising goal — the laid-off staffers at VIBE deserve the same support, as Black media outlets and journalists continue to be targeted and discriminated against in “austerity” measures
It was announced on October 16, 2025 that VIBE was "joining forces" with Rolling Stone. As a result, the majority of VIBE employees were laid off. If you have the means to give, this team could use the support! www.gofundme.com/f/support-vi...

It is very funny that this Pope is just going to get jerseys from now on. Everyone decided that's what this Pope likes and that is it. It's like if your grandmother got you a puzzle for Christmas one year and you said you liked it so your entire extended family is like "oh that's the puzzle kid"
Spike Lee just blessed Pope Leo with a custom Knicks jersey during his visit to the Vatican, just one week after the Pope was gifted a custom Chicago Bulls one.

This review made me sit up, go out and buy a book immediately. That’s paid off brilliantly with what is very probably my favourite speculative book of the year.

It’s given me flashbacks to reading The Raw Shark Texts as a teenager and the absolute head-splitting *thrill* of it. Such a joy.

This book is fucking incredible.

You know that thing, at a con, where you're having the best most interesting conversation of your life with the smartest nerds you'll ever meet and your brain is basically exploding? & you'll never think about SFF the same way again?

This is 356 pages of that.

I see the “technically it’s ephebophelia” crowd is out today, so just a reminder that A) this is NOT a case where technically correct is the best kind of correct and B) the minute you say this, the gods dump you in the “irredeemable creeper” basket and wash their hands thoroughly after touching you.

Okay, okay, I give in, it’s 2025 awards eligibility time! I still have December stories coming, which means I cannot yet bring myself to make an extra-fancy graphic or a full long thread, but… until then, I hope you’ll consider reading some of my stories! Will link a couple favorites in the 🧵 (1/4)

I want to uplift the women who, hearing podcast bros crowing "your body my choice" in the 2024 election cycle, shuddered & felt the fight-flight-freeze of all their life's years & felt the hands that had been placed on their bodies & wept or screamed or swallowed it whole because that's what we do.
