Georgia's governor and agriculture commissioner announced a half-billion dollars in federal Helene aid for farmers, ranchers & timber owners in September

It was a little premature -- the federal government shut down before the deal was finished

It’s as though Aunt Bea had hijacked a national political party.
Agree.

Sen Hassan, asked what will happen if Republicans don't carry out the deal, "Well, shame on them."

This is not what people were mobilizing for on Oct 18.

it would be one thing if schumer was out there promoting this "deal". like that's just fucking expected at this point. but no, it's just these handful of rogue fuckers who know they can get away with it. and it has to be them bc this is SO unpopular.
None can be primaried in the next cycle, Shaheen & Durbin retiring.

Hassan, Masto, Fetterman up for reelection in 2028.

Rosen, Kaine, King up for reelection in 2030.

Utterly clueless.
Reporter: What do you say to your colleagues who say this isn't a fight, this is a capitulation?

Shaheen: We have a guaranteed vote by a guaranteed date…

Reporter: There is no guarantee that this will become law.

Shaheen: There was never a guarantee that it would be become law.

I can't wait to NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE next year so that I WON'T BE ABLE TO GET NECESSARY MEDICAL CARE that enables me to BE HEALTHY ENOUGH TO HAVE A JOB AND PAY TAXES

It’s not.
King: So I believe that we are closer tonight to a vote on the ACA tax credits than we were this morning. This agreement tonight is a win for the American people.

What fucking world is she living in?
Shaheen: "When I talk to my constituents in New Hampshire, you know what they say to me? They say, 'Why can't you all just work together to address the problems that are facing this country?'"

To emphasize a point I made earlier: I work freelance and pay for my own health insurance - a silver plan I buy through the Massachusetts Health Connector. I pay $1065 a month this year and will pay over $1300 a month next year. And I still have an OOP max in the five digits.

I'm pointing this out because I see people on here with employer-sponsored coverage not realizing just how bad things are going to get for people dependent on the ACA and not realizing that we still need healthcare reform that expands public options.

I try not to get heated about Federal politics but my god
November 10, 2025 at 12:25 AM
This is such a fucking joke. They just don’t want to go on record voting for it but know they need the tax credits to go through to keep their constituents happy.
“Um well there aren’t even any Senate Dem Press releases saying they support the deal”

Sen Tim Kaine: Hold my beer

thank you!
The proposal is “not a deal," says Democratic U.S. House Rep. Ritchie Torres.

"It’s an unconditional surrender that abandons the 24 million Americans whose health care premiums are about to double.”

I am so upset.

Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdani’s inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/
