Hey, #FiberArts, #KnitSky, #CraftSky, #crochet, and/or #reenactment people. Can anyone help a friend of a friend with this?

They are looking to make a ‘sprang hairnet’. But they haven’t been able to find much info.

THREAD.

3 years ago, with no warning, a brilliant orange farm cat wandered over from the draughty barn where he had been living, in rural Cornwall, and decided he wanted to live with us instead.

We decided to call him Jim.

This is the first photo I took of him, on that night: December 1st, 2022.

That's a great way to describe the demise of the once best browser ever, to just plain googlemush.
It's weird to not only have lived through an information revolution but also now living through its undoing, all within less than a generation.
Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

If you are, for work, at a French owned hotel in Australia, you don’t speak French and you are greeted in French by the staff at each interaction, is the etiquette to respond in French or English? Either way feels oddly wrong to me.

you do have to do it in a couple of places but this tutorial makes it easy to go uncheck the boxes that otherwise lets Google's AI read all your shit. or move everything over to protonmail but moving everything over is a giant thing I know.
Google has started automatically opting you in to let it read your stuff to train AI. You need to turn this off in SEVERAL places in your settings (not just for Gmail), if you want to maintain privacy and confidentiality.

Gmail can read your emails and attachments to train its AI, unless you opt out
A new Gmail update may allow Google to use your private messages and attachments for AI training. Here's how to turn it off.

Boomers: Their lifetime spanned from ration books to smartphones, from the Cold War to climate wars, from the space race to the algorithmic age. No generation has seen so much or consumed so much. #auspol #Boomers
The last Boomer
Somewhere around 2085, give or take a few years, the last baby boomer will die. But their story is not, in the end, a story about age.

Literally every time I've needed customer service help and it's a company that starts you off with a chatbot, I end up needing a human being. Every time.

Like, if it was a simple enough problem your water-guzzling, mass-polluting, trash wannabe tamagotchi could fix, I would've just done it myself 🤷‍♀️

When we tie the education of children to grading their learning, we destroy their love of learning for its own sake. We create adults who are afraid of maths or sports because they were shamed by poor grades in school. And we create bullies who think they are superior because of a natural talent.
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Once you've seen the sub-literate gibberish passed along among billionaires, the story of how elites came to exalt Bari Weiss, Thomas Chatterton Williams, and other stylists of 4th-grade book report prose snaps into place.
Another revelation from all of these emails is that many of the richest and most powerful people in the country absolutely cannot write. Helps explain their sweaty embrace of LLMs.
