These are not marketed as cold weather cycling gloves but I can recommend them. Waterproof, insulated, hi-viz, inexpensive.
The latex coating provides grip on your gear shifts & brake levers.

Huzzah: Herbivorous Butcher is open again.

No frozen goods yet, so I didn’t get a bag Fried-Chicken-Style food, but did pick up a couple sausage logs and some vegan ranch.

No, if you think the experiment was conducted wrong, then you propose a better experiment. Explain why your measurement is better than the first measurement, show your methodology and data for reproducibility.

tbh one of the biggest takeaways I have from being lucky enough to have been able to travel to a bunch of other countries is “wow, holy shit, look at all these publicly funded things other countries have.

our incredibly moneyed government really fucking hates us, huh?”

Any Twin Cities recommendations for lawn care/landscaping companies that can help tame a small but massively overgrown yard? (It hasn't mattered much since I don't use the yard, but next spring I'll have a highly mobile toddler who will need a *lawn* to run around in, not a jungle.)

Trump's mechanism to pay the troops during the shutdown is by far the most illegal budgetary action he's taken as POTUS, potentially setting the stage to break everything.

It's also needless because Congress would easily pass a troop pay bill if Johnson were willing to gavel in.

Long thread.

WEDNESDAY: Tell Hennepin County what you think of their latest plan for a redesigned Lyndale Ave. I'm gonna tell them how confused I am that anyone could think a shared use path mixing bikes and pedestrians would ever work there.

The final concept design for Lyndale Ave is out and friends, it's really bad. They have a SHARED USE PATH on the east side of the street.

You don't put shared use paths in busy commercial areas, especially when this is in one of the densest neighborhoods in the entire state!

my view is that everyone should be able to earn a living wage doing whatever it is they like. if you love working in a bookshop, you should be able to live a comfortable life doing so. if you loving being a barista, the same. and if you want to do more traditional blue collar work, that’s cool too!
the other thing is that no one who fetishizes manual labor actually cares to improve life for people who are in those circumstances! no support for unionization or a generous welfare state! no interest in policies that make life easier for people who work their hands or afford them more autonomy!

does anyone know if there's current construction or other issues on the McClory bike trail between Kenosha and Winnetka?

Google is showing a detour off the bike path and we aren't sure if there's a good reason for it

On Reduce, Reuse, Re-Cycle: I’m reducing some backstock takeoff spokes to reuse them on an old pair of hubs w/ new hoops to Re-(habilitate an old favorite bi)-Cycle.

Because having your own spoke threader reheally plays enabler to taking apart and rebuilding your own wheel sets.
