Did you read my post from last week about how contract woes caused me to withdraw an accepted story from F&SF, ending my 54-year quest to be published in that magazine? But wait (as the saying goes) — there's more! Scroll down at the link for an update. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

Contract signed! So happy one of my favorite stories finally found a home!

“Magical Girl Eater,” inspired by the growing commodification of nostalgia + fandom (and of course all my favorite magical girl series from the 90s/00s 🌙), will be in a future issue of @uncannymagazine.bsky.social!

This was a lovely tonic for my spirit. Thoughtful and genuinely caring advice.
Many young people struggle with homophobic family members. Heather had advice here that’s good for people of all ages.
"We are all helped and supported by our mutual survival and well-being." A quote from Heather's answer to this all-too-relatable question of how to be in relationship with a homophobic parent. Read the rest of this beautiful answer here: www.scarleteen.com/read/relat...

Always remember that when Henry David Thoreau "lived simply," he was doing it on his friend's land, and his mom would do his laundry.
So we are going to bring forth a world where anyone who wants to be a lone wolf is welcome to walk into the woods without a single damn thing a global community made for him, and perish howling at the moon.

The rest of us will live in a society.

This both bleak as fuck and internally consistent logic. 😱
when you understand that patriarchy views children as sexual property it all makes sense. there's no hypocrisy. exposure to queerness & transness threatens to "corrupt" the father's property, to "lead them astray" into self-determination, to taint their future sexual value. CSA is permissible as >
Thatcher's government did this with Section 28, banned the "promotion of homosexuality" as a danger to children, while actively protecting Jimmy Savile and who knows how many other pedophiles. It's the same damn playbook.

billions of ticketing records are sold to the US government; the DHS, and records show agencies like ICE, CBP, ATF, TSA, and others.

@josephcox.bsky.social found a way for you to opt-out of this in this essential guide to prevent even more gov surveillance
When you book a flight through major travel sites, a data broker owned by U.S. airlines will sell details about your flight—your name, credit card used, and where you’re flying to the government.

We found out how to opt-out of ARC selling your travel data. A guide:

The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC), owned by major U.S. airlines, collects billions of ticketing records and sells them to the government to be searched without a warrant. I managed to opt-out…

Hot political take: I think celebrating wins is good, actually, and reminds people why they gave you the job. Minnesota does a wonderful job of this.

Anyway, go out and vote!
90% of political coverage should be telling voters what Ds and Rs do when they wield power.

Yes Dems can be feckless and performative but if you're a low-information voter who likes it when poor kids eat, you should just vote Dem and not overthink it. Pundits are weirdly allergic to saying this.

The job of a good message isn't to say what is popular. The job of a good message is to make popular what we need said.

MAGA and Madison Avenue have known and exploited this. But it also very much applies to campaigns for good.

TIL I too run a "safe house" because I make it a point of asking contractors, door knockers, mail carriers, delivery people, and other folks who are out all day if they need a bottle of water, bathroom access, or 5 minutes off their feet in heat/AC (depending on season) when I see them outside
The Oregonians interviewed a guy who Republicans have accused of running an “Antifa safe house.” The levels of MAGA derangement about Portland are truly off the charts.

1) we’ve had the productive capacity to produce food for every living person on this planet

2) we have the logistics to deliver these to every person on this planet

3) we have ideologies and philosophies to know that’s good

That we don’t is a choice. And a moral failure.

I'm so sick of discourse from supposed allies about where trans people went wrong.

Where we "went wrong" is that billionaires spent unimaginably large sums to attack us repeatedly and major media outlets have spent a decade piling on.

The conversation between Klein and Coates showed me that a lot of people who screech about “infighting” on the left aren’t aware of the fact that marginalized people have been forced to learn how to regulate their emotions during conflict, and so, are better able to hear what’s actually being said.
