Tldr: the official postmark date is not necessarily the same date as when you dropped it in the mailbox, so if you mail your taxes on April 15 the postmark might not be until April 16 (and thus late)

Since mobility aids are the theme of the day:
You don't need any excuse to use one. Cane, crutches (heavily recommend forearm), wheelchair, etc. There is no minimum amount of discomfort or disability required.
By the time you think you need a mobility aid, you often have needed it for a while.
