Of all the examples of people dying because somebody inexperienced was in charge, the biggest, most horrifying was Elon Musk and DOGE. No idea what AID did, didn’t care, blew it up and at least 600,000 people died unnecessarily as a consequence. Mass murder out of ignorance and bias. Thanks, Elon.
the very last person who should be prattling on about the dangers of inexperience is the grifting troglodyte who killed millions when he was put in charge of “efficiency”

Have the JC and BoD demanded an explanation from Reform? This would be the lowest of low-hanging fruit to do, if they want any of their (often justified) condemnation of AS from the left to be taken seriously by the left.

No one has ever been able to adequately explain what Putin is meant to have thought NATO expansion would threaten him with, apart from limiting his expansionist ambitions.

"He was worried they'd invade Russia."

No he wasn't.

He just wasn't.

That's not a thing anyone thought might happen.
this is the simple answer to people who keep saying NATO expansion matters. Sure, it matters because it presented an obstacle to Russian imperial ambitions. Putin didn't invade because he hated NATO expansion, he hated NATO expansion because he wanted to invade

2026 will be the year of combat donkeys and hypersonic missiles; of machine intelligence creating the first Top 40 hit and medieval grifters speaking in tongues in the Oval Office. It will be the year of monsters and dark miracles.
Another combat donkey joins the Russian army, now upgraded with helmet and body armor.

Italian immigrant communities into America in the early 1900s were subjected to the most appalling degrees of racism and bigotry and it led to the USA actively moving to stop migration from Italy in a series of acts including the Emergency Quota Act (1921) and the restrictive Immigration Act (1924)

This is not true at all.

Russia is far more Muslim than most of Europe and North America, and that has nothing to do with why people hate Russia.

People hate Russia because it is an imperialist dictatorship that invades, rapes, and commits genocide against its neighbors

Honestly also the brass neck of this paper, which cheered this asymmetric trade deal at the time and advocated that Liz Truss, the Cabinet minister who signed it should become *prime minister*.
A quick google informs me that after this surge, Australia provides about 4% of our beef imports, and our beef imports are about 25% of our consumption. So this headline is basically saying “anger as 0.6% becomes 1% of total” and I’m not sure that’s particularly justifiable

👇 This sums up underlying problem with actually existing Brexit. The ways you actually maximise the benefits of Brexit run against the electoral coalition for Brexit, are not popular enough with Remainers, just end up with 'you're divorced, but you refuse to join Tinder or move out of your home'.
The Telegraph pushing liberal brexiteers and then hating every possible implementation of a liberal Brexit has been amusing over the years

Studying history and reading novels both get us out of our own heads, the first by helping us to imagine different worlds, and the second by prompting us to inhabit different subjectivities.

Those who do neither are forever imprisoned in the here, the now, and the self.

The Right used to contain the staunchest monarchists, but their more recent burn-it-all-down creed pauses for nothing.

These people have a very corrupted view of Britishness and should not be allowed to 'own' patriotism.
"Give it a rest" posted podcaster Connor Tomlinson at 3.15pm on Christmas Day about the King's message

Tomlinson advocates bamning all British citizens who are Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist from parliament & civil service, along with ethnic minorities who lack white British ancestors.

Sad and predictable but also interesting and revealing to see the angry reaction from the populist right to the King's Speech. They're reading it as a call for tolerance of diversity, approval for multi-faith, multi-cultural UK, and supportive of Ukraine. Which I think it was & intentionally so. 1/3
