Why long COVID hits women harder than men
Women are about three times more likely than men to develop long COVID, and many experience symptoms that linger and intensify.

It’s Election Day, and my most lib trait by far is how much I love it, and so I’m thinking about disabled grief. Developing very severe ME/CFS really is a lot like dying but having to watch the world keep turning without you.

I spotted this on Mastodon and I find it horrible, not least for the speed with which this has happened.

I used to say this trial was a waste of taxpayer dollars, but I think it’s totally worth it.
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

Tonight a neighbor was walking past my home with his family and stopped in his tracks when he saw me. He seemed genuinely happy to see me outside. He asked about Long Covid and promised me he would keep up with the research to share with others. We need more people like him 💛

I was a (paid) test user for this trial and am thrilled w/the accommodations it makes to include people as severely ill as I am!

If you’re in the US and have Long Covid, check it out and share w/friends!

Also: if you don’t see your state yet, you can sign up to be alerted when yours is added!

New followers here’s an intro on me and what I post about:

I have #SevereMECFS and am housebound. (It sucks)

I have an MD, but don’t practice medicine. Other health problems took me out during residency. (Seriously, my life follows Murphy’s Law)

Over 71 million Americans are paid less than a living wage, and are forced into social safety nets like SNAP.

If you think too many people are receiving SNAP benefits, don’t shame them.

Shame their employers paying them poverty wages and forcing taxpayers to subsidize the rest.

A mother of 8 was deported within 24 hours of reporting sexual harassment by an ICE contracto

She was following the rules & going through the process to get her green card

Someone working on behalf of ICE abused her.

She spoke out and was kicked out of the country.

It’s retaliation & it’s wrong

Things are so mean-spirited right now, this made me tear up. In the gratuitously cruel age of Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Mike Johnson, it's comforting to be reminded that there still are decent human beings that walk amongst us. Thank you, Heretic Coffee in Portland.
Heretic Coffee in Portland, Oregon has announced that starting Nov 1st they will provide breakfast to those in the community who will be facing hunger due to SNAP benefits not being sent out in November.

Researchers reviewed 69 studies across 45 countries and found long COVID was more common in women, middle-aged and older adults.

Obesity, lung disease, anxiety, depression, and no vaccination raised risk, while Omicron infection lowered it.
