Hoping to connect with other readers of contemporary romance. I also enjoy cozy mystery and SF, but lately romance has been my jam and I'd like to find people to chat with about what we're reading. If you want to connect for that, please chime in. 🧡

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

The idea that sexual abuse is part of “private” life instead of a public crisis has done incalculable damage. Anti-rape activists have to fight to even make it possible to expose sexual abuse as a wrongdoing in public without being silenced and undermined. That fight is far from won

Othered bodies are just a stage for their masculinity.
The primary reason men perpetrate sexual violence is to bond with each other.

That’s why there are so many text messages and emails. For most rapists, the satisfaction doesn’t come from the violence. It comes from the power they get after bragging about it.

Because even they know he’s exactly that kind. They admire him for it.

I wonder how many influential donors to the Democratic Party are in those files? 🤔
like, why would any democrat compromise with the GOP right now? you have a once in a millennium upper hand. every member of trump’s admin who opened that file is complicit. go after them. open investigations. have hearings. say it on the news every night. do something other than roll over for once.

Earnest post: there is increasingly direct evidence that Trump participated in child sex trafficking or at least knew about it.

He should resign, be impeached and removed from office, and prosecuted.

Even if you don’t think that WILL happen it’s important to say publicly that it SHOULD happen.

It has been infuriating to watch years of indifference, followed by a cover-up in plain view that the sitting Attorney General, head of the FBI, and the Speaker of the House have participated in all of which could have been avoided if the US wasn't so fucking rife with misogyny.

Please please please don't let me get the placebo.

I keep coming back to a story idea with a MC with ME/CFS. Although it's light genre fiction, it scares me b/c of the personal places I'd have to go to convey the experience. Maybe I'm not ready, or maybe the fear means that's the story I should be writing?

Considering the goal of public health leaders has been to make COVID endemic, this would be a great time for them to explain why that's a good thing.

Were they just trying to get it everywhere so they could use that as an excuse for failing to do anything, or is there some sort of plan here?

So many takes about Democrats being cowards, or stupid, or naive, or whatever. They’re bought. Everything they do makes sense if you stop assuming they’re representative of anyone but a few big donors.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

We said that the rising eugenicist sentiment that accelerated during the “back to normal” phase of Covid would eventually hurt everyone

The new healthcare plan for America appears to be:

Don’t get sick

If you do get sick, it’s your fault

If you can’t pay, die

Tonight Democrats proved that old quip.

If a genie gave Democrats 3 wishes, they'd negotiate it down to 1, and then wish for something they think Republicans will like.

We need a true opposition party now more than ever. Because this aint it.

The 8 Dems who voted against ACA are embracing eugenics.

This decision will disproportionately harm disabled people.

Many Disabled people have pre existing conditions & won’t be able to afford insurance.

Many live in legislated poverty.

Guess we aren’t dying fast enough for them
